Welcome back to Fantastic Five, our Friday celebration of the best comics of the week! This week was one of new beginnings, as three #1 issues made it to our top 5. Let’s get to the books!

Best comics of the week: July 8, 2026

    #5: Witness Point #1

‘Witness Point’ #1 has a killer premise and great characters

Witness Point #1 succeeds because it understands that a great crime story needs more than a clever premise. Nathan Fillon and Heath Corson build a small town full of personalities, grudges, secrets, and simmering tension, while artist Soo Lee gives every character enough individuality to make them feel like a suspect, a victim, or both. The witness protection angle provides an irresistible foundation, but the issue never relies solely on its elevator pitch. Instead, it carefully constructs a mystery populated by colorful characters, sharp dialogue, and just enough chaos, including a tiger attack, to keep readers on their toes. If the series can maintain this level of plotting and characterization, Witness Point has all the ingredients to become one of the year’s standout crime comics.

    #4: Supergirl #15

‘Supergirl’ #15 sees Kara Zor-El finally embrace her destiny

After defeating Black Flame, Supergirl and Lesla-Lar find their strengths as heroes and make bold choices about the legacies they want to build

    #3: Vampyrates! #1

‘Vampyrates!’ #1 is a bloody, bold debut

Vampyrates! #1 marks a bold and bloody debut, crafting a world that readers will get lost in while also providing plenty of swashbuckling and bloodsucking action. Vampires are cool. Pirates are cool. This comic proves that mixing the two together is a bona fide recipe for success

    #2: DIE: Loaded #7

‘DIE: Loaded’ #7 rolls up with a welcome return

DIE: Loaded is a pleasure to read, a game whose every turn demands the reader turn to the next page. It’s a great comic

    #1: Clayface: Celebrity Dirt #1

‘Clayface: Celebrity Dirt’ #1 is one of the coolest debuts of the year

I was curious about Clayface: Celebrity Dirt when it was first announced, but I was a little concerned it would feel a little too close to the already mentioned One Bad Day one-shot. I shouldn’t have been worried at all, because Celebrity Dirt is a comic that does the impossible: it’s accessible to new readers, it’s a great story for longtime Batman fans, and it’s a great title for fans of horror comics or superhero fans who maybe want to try out horror comics. Celebrity Dirt is truly something special and one of the coolest debut issues of the year, and if the upcoming Clayface movie is half as effective as this comic is, we’ll be in for a good time at the cinemas. As it stands right now, this comic alone is worth the price of admission and I can’t wait for more clay creepiness from Doyle and Galan.
