There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Jana Nayagan, which is being touted as Vijay’s last film before he enters politics. A fake CBFC certificate of the film started doing the rounds on social media over the weekend. The document claimed that the film was awarded an ‘A’ certificate after a delay of several months and had been much-discussed among fans
Confusion sparked by fake Censor Certificate
On Saturday, a fan page posted what looked like an official CBFC certificate, saying that Jana Nayagan has finally cleared the certification process. The film has been given an ‘A’ certificate and has a runtime of nearly three hours, the document said, listing several changes, including muting of abusive language, trimming of violent scenes, reducing bloodshed and changing references to a character named Collector Shanmugam
The post went viral on social media, and many felt that the long-delayed film had finally crossed the hurdle of certification
But the certificate was subsequently discovered to be a forgery. The user who posted the document initially has since deleted the post and issued an apology, admitting that the certificate was not real

Film Awaiting CBFC Certification
However, despite the rumours, Jana Nayagan is yet to get the clearance from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The production house has not officially responded to the fake certificate, but earlier comments from the team indicated that they are still waiting for the board’s decision
Producer Venkat K. Narayana had earlier expressed confidence that the certification will come soon and said the team was hopeful of getting the approval soon
The certification process has been stalled for months. According to reports, the film was first sent to CBFC in December 2025 and the makers were asked to make certain changes. The team reportedly did not hear anything further about certification following a revised submission in January
The matter finally went to the courts. The CBFC said the film was referred to a Revising Committee after a member of the examining panel objected to it. But the legal process did not bring instant relief, leaving the project in limbo
Leak Adds to Film’s Challenges
Earlier this year, Jana Nayagan’s high-definition print was illegally leaked online ahead of its official release, adding to the delay. The pirated version quickly spread across the internet until authorities intervened and made several arrests during the investigation
Later, there were reports that the film might be released around Vijay’s birthday in June, but those reports did not come true

Jana Nayagan is directed by H. Vinoth, with Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in key roles. The movie has already created a lot of buzz with talks of it being Vijay’s final film as he is all set to plunge into politics full-time
The makers are yet to give an official word to the fans regarding the plans for the film’s release. The certification process is still on hold
