As far as anthology comics go, Exquisite Corpses certainly boasts a novel format. Technically, the series is created by James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh, but in the spirit of the exquisite corpse concept, each issue shifts to a new creative team, who tell a story about one of the stylish killers in this action-horror universe. And sometimes, these new stories are so good they just demand a spinoff. That’s where Exquisite Corpses: Fox Mask Killer comes in.

As mentioned, Exquisite Corpses: Fox Mask Killer is a spinoff of the main series, reuniting writer Che Grayson (Absolute Catwoman) and artist Adam Gorham (Infernal Hulk) as they delve much deeper into the hyperviolent world of the titular masked assassin. Like Exquisite Corpses, Fox Mask Killer is published through Tynion’s Tiny Onion imprint and Image Comics.

Among killers-for-hire, there are a select few feared even among other assassins. The enigmatic Fox Mask Killer is at the top of that list. But now she wants the one thing even she can’t have – she wants out. “From the moment James and Michael welcomed me into the world of Exquisite Corpses, I knew it was something special,” said Grayson in a statement. “I gravitated instantly to Fox Mask Killer, a character whose design alone provoked a rich backstory and undeniable aura. The biggest treat for me as a writer was the challenge of bringing depth to a character whose face readers would never see…until now. With this new limited series, the mask finally comes off, and I couldn’t be more excited to team up again with my best mate Adam alongside stellar talents Jordie and Becca. This is a dream project for me and I think fans of Fox Mask Killer and the Exquisite Corpses series are going to be very happy with the high stakes and even higher emotions thrill ride we have her on.”
Exquisite Corpses: Fox Mask Killer #1 will be released on September 16, with a final order cutoff of August 24. You can preorder a copy at your local comic shop.
