San Diego Comic-Con 2026 is here, and IGN is at the show reporting live on all the panels that matter.

Our live reporting kicked off with Insomniac’s panel for upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive, Marvel’s Wolverine, direct from Hall H. There, Insomniac Games’ creative director Marcus Smith, game director Mike Daly, narrative director Walt Williams, and senior project director Jess Reiner-Reed, alongside actors Liam McIntyre (Wolverine) and Krizia Bajos (Jean Grey), as well as executive producer Eric Monacelli from Marvel Games, debuted a new trailer for the game, discussed its various characters, and announced a surprise crossover with fighting game Marvel’s Wolverine X Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.

You can catch up on all our live reporting below. And when you’re done with that, be sure to check out our big interview with Insomniac Games from June, where we found out a lot more about how Marvel’s Wolverine works and plays, including information on co-op combat with Jean Grey.

Then, on Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25, IGN will stream live from San Diego with A-list interviews, exclusive reveals, and live coverage of SDCC’s biggest panels and announcements. Our broadcast runs from 3pm PT / 6pm ET to 7pm PT / 10pm ET each day and streams across IGN platforms. Here’s our live show schedule.

    Lightning round

The panel ended with some closing thoughts about Marvel’s Wolverine. Marcus Smith said he hopes players feel powerful when they go hands-on. Jess Reiner-Reed is excited for players to see all the suits. Mike Daly namechecked Wolverine’s Beserker Rage, where you “feel the frenzy.” Eric Monacelli praised the “emotional depth and complexity in our cast of characters. These became my favorite versions of these characters.” Liam McIntyre said playing Wolverine was the “biggest honor of my life. I hope you trust me with this character.” And Krizia Bajos said she could wait for players to experience the game after working on it for four years.

Marvel’s Wolverine X Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Game director Mike Daly says unlocking and crafting iconic suits for these characters is a part of the fun, and when Insomniac saw Wolverine in Arc System Works’ fighting game Marvel Tokon, they wanted his look in their game. So, Insomniac created a suit inspired by the one Wolverine wears in Marvel Tokon. In Marvel’s Wolverine, you unlock the Tokon suit by entering a Japanese arcade.

The crossover works both ways. Marvel’s Wolverine’s Battle Reborn suit is coming to Tokon on September 1.

    Marvel’s Wolverine’s soundtrack composer revealed

Award-winning composer David Fleming is at the helm of Marvel’s Wolverine’s soundtrack. You can listen to a track from the game later today. The full soundtrack releases August 28, 2026

    Marvel’s Wolverine prequel comic

Insomniac is now discussing the just-announced Marvel’s Wolverine prequel comic. When you start the game you’ll meet Logan who’s been out of the game for some time. He quit and walked away without saying goodbye. The prequel will reveal more of that story, which sets up the game.

“Wolverine and the mutants of Team X are preparing to infiltrate Sentinel creator Bolivar Trask’s secret base, and what they find within will tear them apart!” reads the official description. Part one is available online on Marvel Unlimited.

    The Hand

Wolverine also faces off against the demon-worshipping ninja cult, The Hand (who we will also see in this month’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day). Senior project director Jess Reiner-Reed confirmed that Lady Deathstrike is the leader of The Hand in Marvel’s Wolverine, and is a formidable foe for Logan. The Hand is connected to Logan in some way, and he will fight them throughout the game, eventually ending up in Japan.

We see Wolverine burst through a window, sword in his body, get up and shove the sword through a ninja. He can take that damage and get right back up, thanks to his Healing Factor.

    Trask Industries

Trask Industries plays a big role in Marvel’s Wolverine, posing a significant threat. Creative director Marcus Smith says “billionaires can cause damage. It turns out that having unlimited reees mutants as a threat and will use his re The Reavers, people cybernetically implanted with advanced technology

    Where are the X-Men?

While Marvel’s Wolverine features Team X, the X-Men do not exist in the world of the game. Eric Monacelli from Marvel Games says this was a deliberate choice for Earth-1048, the universe that serves as the setting for various Marvel video games developed by Insomniac Games.

Instead, the game features Team X, a spec ops group that formed in the 1960s by Nathaniel Essex to fight the existential threat posed by Bolivar Trask. In the story, Logan left Team X three years ago under tense circumstances, leaving Essex feeling abandoned. Now, he’s angry that he’s returned.

As we knew, Mystique is in Marvel’s Wolverine. Mutants in the game’s world live in the shadows, so Team X allows her to be herself.

We know that the X-Men don’t exist in Marvel’s Wolverine, but Team X does, and it comprises of Sabertooth, Wolverine, and Mystique. #SDCCpic.twitter.com/ih9GIgjGRJ— IGN (@IGN) July 23, 2026

What role does Jean Grey play in the story?

We’re told Jean Grey has been out on her own, constantly on the move, discovering other people have powers (the X-Men do not exist in Marvel’s Wolverine). Jean wants to give these other mutants what she didn’t have, a place where they can be safe. That’s how she crosses paths with this ruggedly handsome stranger (Wolverine), who she can’t believe is willing to do so much to help the mutants.

Krizia Bajos, who plays Jean Grey, says that when she meets Logan, “there’s something there, a cosmic connection. She can see through his walls and his wounds.”

    Who is Insomniac’s Wolverine?

Mike Daly says this is Insomniac’s take on the Wolverine we all know. “We set out to create the ultimate Wolverine game and that meant bringing to life all the traits that make this character beloved. He’s cynical, candid he keeps people at a distance. He has a big heart.

“We prioritized claw combat, that was an essential part of the character. Leveraging his mutant healing factor, deep rage, enhanced senses to track and scout enemies to sense incoming danger and feel his heavy skeleton as you push forward. We wanted to make sure his personality came through in eshc action.. His lost memories, you will be peeling back layers of his past. Not an origin story, same universe as marvel spider man games!

“When we bring all those things together, it’s all directed toward delivering a singular feeling to the player. I feel like Wolverine!”

McIntyre, who plays Wolverine, thanks Insomniac for trusting him to play the much-loved X-Men character. He says he found Wolverine

    New Wolverine trailer

We have a new Marvel’s Wolverine trailer, which just debuted during the SDCC panel. This one focuses on the story, and sets up Jean Grey as a potential love interest for Logan. We also see a number of already revealed characters, including Sabretooth and Lady Deathstrike. It looks like part of the story will revolve around Wolverine recovering his memory of past exploits, as well as saving mutants from harm.

    Here we go!
