Every New Feature Added To PlayStation 5 In The September 2026 Update

The September 16, 2026 firmware update for PlayStation 5 has added some genuine quality-of-life improvements, especially for new PS5 Pro owners. If you have set your PlayStation 5 to auto-update, then this update is likely already installed on your device. Here is every new feature added to the PlayStation 5 in the updated firmware version 26.06-14.00.00:

• The Enhance PSSR Image Quality feature on PS5 Pro systems is automatically turned on by default
• You can toggle an on-screen display of who’s speaking while you’re in a voice chat by going to the voice chat card in the control center and selecting More > Display Who’s Speaking > Display Names
• A Community Activity widget has been added to the Welcome Hub
• A Turn Off Bluetooth feature has been added to Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings, intended for managing controller connections at esports venues

And as usual, this update also comes with generalized system software performance and stability improvements. But the key takeaway from this firmware version is that enhanced PS5 Pro graphics settings have been updated to toggle on by default. First-time PS5 Pro owners will see the full graphical capabilities of the system without having to fiddle around in the configurations menu.

Did the new PlayStation 5 update improve PS5 Pro graphics?

Many PS5 Pro owners may notice improved graphics while gaming after the update. That’s because firmware version 26.06-14.00.00 automatically turns on the “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” feature by default. This is a feature that was actually introduced exclusively for PS5 Pro systems back in March 2026, but users had to toggle it on manually in the system settings. Now all PS5 Pro owners are witnessing the benefits of this feature, even if they didn’t know it existed.

Here’s what “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” actually does: It uses an upgraded version of the existing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) AI library to upscale video game graphics pixel-by-pixel. The result is a notably crisper image for games that support the feature. Keeping Enhanced PSSR Image Quality toggled on is definitely one of the best ways to get the most out of your PS5. Whether or not this feature justifies the PS5 Pro’s $900 price tag, though, is a personal decision.
