Steam customers in Europe are being warned that personal information linked to hardware orders may have been exposed following a cyberattack on a logistics partner, CEVA Logistics, who are responsible for shipping Steam hardware to customers across the region,

First reported by the folks over at Digital Foundry, an email sent by Valve to potentially affected customers shared some details on the attack, which took place between July 29 and August 1, 2026. CEVA is still investigating the incident, but Valve said it was informed on August 7 that customer information held by the logistics provider was unfortunately, likely compromised.

The information involved relates specifically to physical hardware purchases and was provided to CEVA so orders could be delivered. Valve said the potentially compromised information includes:

    • Customer name
    • Street address, city and postal code
    • Country
    • Phone number
    • Email address associated with the customer’s Steam account
    • The type and price of the Steam hardware ordered

In light of the data breach, Valve are warning customers to “Expect fake messages – email, SMS or phone – that mention your hardware order and appear to come from Steam, Valve or a delivery company“. Valve have reiterated that users do not need to change their Steam password, or make any changes to existing account settings.

In the meantime, Valve are working with CEVA to understand the “full scope of what was taken and how“in addition to notifying the relevant data protection authorities in the countries affected. CEVA have brought in an outside investigation team and the affected system has been isolated and taken offline.
