Montreal-based comics publisher Drawn & Quarterly announced the license acquisition and English-language release of several titles at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, includingHinako Sugiura‘sLady Hokusaihistorical manga.
Sugiura’sLady Hokusaimanga series will be translated byDavid Boydand released by Drawn & Quarterly in fall 2027. The manga was originally published in Japan by Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha from 1983 to 1987 and released three total volumes. The series is known in Japan asSarusuberi.
Lady Hokusaipreviously inspired a 2015 anime film fromProduction I.G, which was directed byKeiichi Hara(Lonely Castle in the Mirror, Birthday Wonderland). It was released in English by GKIDS under the titleMiss Hokusai.
Drawn & Quarterly also licensedShigeo Ito’sMarmalade Princessmanga, which the publisher describes as an “urban slacker novella.” The manga will be translated by Boyd and will be released in spring 2027. It will be Ito’s first manga to be released in English.
Additionally, the publisher is planning the release of three manga titles throughout the rest of 2026 and early 2027, includingMurasaki Yamada’sSassy Catson November 3, 2026 andHideshi Hino’sA Lullaby From Hellon November 10, 2026.
Yoko Kondo’sOne Woman and the Warmanga will also be released in spring 2027 and translated by Boyd. The English release was first announced in July 2025 and is a retelling ofAngo Sakaguchi’s 1946 novel from the perspective of a woman.
