LOS ANGELES –Get ready for a brand-new stop-motion adventure! Disney+ and The Pokémon Company are teaming up to bring new shows and classics to fans worldwide.
Starting in 2027, the stop-motion series “Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu” will stream exclusively on Disney+ and air on Disney XD worldwide. Created by animation studio Aardman, the show follows Sirfetch’d and Pichu on a journey through the Galar region.
The duo sets out on a quest to help and protect Pokémon across the Galar region. While their missions rarely go as planned, their noble deeds build a friendship as they face challenges, rivalries and plenty of laughs together.
Revealed today at Pokémon XP by original animation director Phil Rynda and the Aardman creative team, the official teaser trailer gives fans their first look at the stop-motion action. The clip features Pichu and Sirfetch’d alongside Falinks and a Galarian Farfetch’d, plus a fierce battle between Pichu and Karrablast. Viewers also get quick glimpses of other Pokémon, including Hatterene, Obstagoon, Alcremie, Escavalier and more.
“Pokémon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family. “This new series, ‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu,’ brings Aardman’s signature stop-motion artistry with a bold, playful new perspective to this beloved world, giving audiences a fresh way to experience the characters they know and love. Along with ‘Pokémon the Series: The Beginning,’ these series are powerful additions to Disney XD and Disney+.”
Commenting on the partnership, Phil Rynda said, “These stories, full of adventure and heroism, all told from the perspective of Pokémon is made even more exciting through the lens of the incredible filmmakers at Aardman.”
The agreement also includes the animated series “Pokémon the Series: The Beginning.” Following Ash and Pikachu as they travel the Pokémon world, the series began airing on Disney XD earlier this month and is now streaming on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets.
“Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu” is set to debut in 2027 on Disney+ and will air on Disney XD.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Disney XD, Disney+ and this ABC station.
