Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar franchise has created history, breaking all records by earning over Rs 3,100 crore worldwide. However, the film’s recent release in Japan has turned out to be a disappointment. Despite being released across nearly 80 screens, the action film directed by Aditya Dharhas managed to draw only around 900 viewers on its opening day, followed by a slow start in the country
Dhurandhar fails to make a mark at Japanese box office
The film premiered in Japanese theatres on July 10, 2026. According to trade reports, the film was unable to secure a place among the country’s top 25 films on any day of its opening weekend
On the first day of release, Dhurandhar recorded 449 entries till 2 pm across 57 locations. However, the collection did not see an improvement in the second half of the day. The total number of admissions increased to only 900 across 80 locations. Clearly, Dhurandharcould not fare well in the country despite being heavily promoted ahead of its release
The film reportedly sold only around 900 tickets on its opening day, thus missing the benchmark required to break into Japan’s list of the top 10 Indian film openers. The 10th spot is currently held by Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 with 1,300 admissions. Notably, Pushpa 2 had also previously fallen short of making it to the top 10
RRR remains the biggest Indian opener in Japan, securing 8,230 admissions on day one, followed by Saaho, Kalki 2898 AD, Pathaan, Salaar, Jawan, Rangasthalam, Devara, Baahubali 2 and Tiger 3
Dhurandhar worldwide collection
Meanwhile, the franchise has enjoyed breakthrough success elsewhere. Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the second instalment, went on to become the second highest-grossing Indian film of all time following Dangal, collecting Rs 1,813 crore worldwide
The first Dhurandhar hit theatres in December 2025, and turned out to be a blockbuster with global earnings exceeding Rs 1,307 crore. The two films combined have grossed over Rs 3,100 crore worldwide
The Dhurandhar franchise is written and directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by Lokesh Dhar and Jyoti Deshpande under the banners of Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The franchise stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera, Danish Pandor and others
