Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced his resignation on Saturday July 25, marking a major development in the ongoing student protest over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. The resignation comes after weeks of protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), with students demanding accountability, education reforms and Pradhan’s exit from the ministry.
Celebrities react to Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation
Soon after the announcement, several members of the film fraternity took to social media to react, with many hailing the moment as a victory for students who had continued their protests despite weeks of demonstrations.
Priyanka Chopra and Huma Qureshi both took to their Instagram Stories to react to the development, expressing solidarity with the students following Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
Dia Mirza shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram Stories, expressing solidarity with the students. “Only LOVE Gen Z,” she wrote, before thanking environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk and the students for their peaceful movement. “Thank you wangchuksworld for walking the path of peace and showing our children what true love looks like. Free of hate. Free of fear. Thank you to every young student asking for accountability, transparency and reform in our education system. cockroachjantaparty remain respectful, peaceful and consistent as you have.”
Vijay Varma also appeared to react through his Instagram Stories, posting the line, “I’ll take my leave now… keep me in your prayers,” a song lyric from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, that many social media users interpreted as a reference to Pradhan’s resignation.
Bhumi Pednekar shared a post welcoming the announcement, while Zaheer Iqbal also reacted on Instagram in support of the students.
Aditi Rao Hydari marked the moment with an Instagram post, and Shibani Akhtar also joined the conversation by sharing her reaction on social media.
Vaani Kapoor, Rohit Saraf, Alia Bhatt, Vir Das, Sonam Kapoor, Triptii Dimri and Varun Dhawan were among several other film personalities who also reacted to the announcement on social media, with many describing it as a significant moment for students demanding accountability and reforms.
Dharmendra Pradhan steps down
Announcing his decision, Pradhan said he was saddened by the events of the past 10 days and had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He maintained that his priority throughout the controversy had been to ensure examinations for millions of students were conducted smoothly while protecting the interests of deserving candidates.
Over the past few weeks, the protests have received support from several members of the entertainment industry, including Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia Deshmukh, Shabana Azmi, Prakash Raj, Ratna Pathak Shah, Swara Bhasker, Richa Chadha, Anurag Kashyap, Vir Das, Sonu Sood and Aditi Rao Hydari, many of whom had called for dialogue, transparency and accountability.
