Boston Brand isn’t ready to give up the ghost just yet—and DC readers certainly aren’t complaining.

In a major vote of confidence for one of the breakout titles in the DC Next Level initiative, the publisher has officially extended The Deadman. Originally announced and launched as a tight six-issue miniseries, the spectral series from acclaimed writer W. Maxwell Prince and superstar artist Martín Morazzo has officially doubled its order to a full 12-issue maxiseries.

Since kicking off in June as part of the post-All In Next Level publishing expansion, The Deadmanhas earned widespread critical acclaim for blending existential philosophy, surrealist horror, and dark, tragicomic superheroics.

The series follows former circus aerialist Boston Brand as he navigates his purgatorial role as the “Custodian of All Souls,” attempting to uphold the laws of spiritual mathematics while possessing the living to solve paranormal disturbances. Prince and Morazzo’s reunion on the title brought the exact same eerie, surreal magic that made Ice Cream Man an indie juggernaut, creating a unique corner of the DC Universe.

Reaching outPrince expressed his gratitude to the fans for embracing their surreal take on the character:

“The response to our Deadman story has been absolutely spirit-lifting,” said Prince. “We’re having so much fun giving new life to Boston Brand and his purgatorial world… and we’re not ready to give up the ghost just yet. Here’s to 6 more issues of monsters, mantras, and mayhem.”

When a creative team as visionary as Prince and Morazzo gets the room to stretch their legs on an underutilized power-house like Boston Brand, comic readers win. Giving The Deadman 12 issues ensures that DC’s weirdest, most poignant hero gets the full, uninhibited stage he deserves.
