    • Stuart Fails to Save the Universe surprises DC’s Jim Lee with ambitious visual effects and a unique storyline, offering a fresh and ambitious take on the iconic intellectual property, now streaming on HBO Max.

Eight years after their last Comic-Con appearance, The Big Bang Theory alumni returned to Hall H with a new mission and a roster of DC characters in tow. The panel for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe revealed a series that will have sitcom heart with genuine comic book spectacle.

The spin-off brings back Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, John Ross Bowie, and Brian Posehn, all of whom step into leading roles. Co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady joined them on the SDCC stage alongside Zak Penn to preview the HBO Max comedy.

Jim Lee teases a DC-focused episode in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe

DC Comics’ Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee made a surprise appearance to reveal the DC crossover in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. “They requested some DC characters to be involved in an episode,” he said. The official trailer already offers a glimpse of this collision, prominently featuring the icy villain Mr. Freeze.

Lee expressed his admiration for the production’s approach to theomething that was true to our characters, but at the same time find comedy in it,” he continued. Additionally, the COO recounted how his initial expectations were completely upended during a set visit. He anticipated a traditional multi-camera sitcom setup

Instead, he was met with ambitious visual effects and bespoke additions to Stuart’s comic book store. “Then Bill started talking about the overall arc of the 10 episodes, and I thought this is super ambitious, this is completely not what I expected,” Lee stated. “It’s like nerds going through Gulliver’s Travels, and I was sold.”

The publisher’s confidence in The Big Bang Theory spin-off extends beyond the production design. Lee offered strong praise for the final on-screen product, specifically the interpretation of the iconic intellectual property. “Some of the DC characters they have in it, I think, are some of the best versions I’ve seen of those characters,” he said.

Stuart Fails To Save the Universe is streaming on HBO Max.
