If you’ve enjoyed Daredeviland the MCUas much as I have, seeing three Defenderssitting on a New York Comic Con stage together was a delight. On Thursday, Marvelconfirmed that the third and final season of Daredevil: Born Again will bring the Defenders back together.
Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter and Finn Jones appeared at the panel, which was led by Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of television, animation and comics.Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage, did not attend but is set to return for the season. Set photos had fueled speculation about a reunion in April, when Colter and Jones were spotted on the New York set alongside Ritter.
The cast described what it felt like to be together again. Ritter said it felt as though “no time had passed,” and Jones said returning to set “felt like 2016 all over again.”
Marvel also showed the crowd an exclusive first look at the season. The footage opens with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist seated together, and Jessica notes that Daredevil is missing because he is imprisoned after the events of season 2. Later clips show Matt Murdock behind bars, wrapping his hands and fighting hostile inmates.
The reunion came with big, and for many, unwelcome news. When Marvel confirmed that season 3 will be the last for the series, attendees at the Javits Center booed loudly. Cox responded with humor, saying, “All I’ll say is that I imagine the ‘Save Daredevil’ campaign will be gearing up for round two.” He added, “Listen, you don’t want to invite the wrath of the ‘Save Daredevil’ people!”
The upcoming season will be the first onscreen reunion of all four original Defenders since the 2017 Netflix miniseries. Vincent D’Onofrio is set to return as Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin.
Season 3 is expected to stream on Disney+ in 2027, but no premiere date was announced at the panel. The session was part of a larger Marvel presentation that also previewed Zodiac, a live-action spy thriller arriving on Disney+ in 2028, and the second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which debuts January 13, 2027. It also previewed VisionQuest. Attendees saw its first episode, and the first two episodes premiere on Disney+ on October 14, concluding the story begun in WandaVision and Agatha All Along.
For viewers who followed Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist from their separate Netflix series into the 2017 team-up, season 3 puts all four characters in one story again.
