Every two years, the biggest Disney fans gather together to celebrate all things associated with the Mouse House. The Anaheim Convention Center hosts all kinds of panels and booths, but the main attraction happens on Friday night at the Honda Center. This is where the Disney Entertainment Showcase takes place and the studio showcases everything it has coming down the pipeline from all of its major brands, including Disney Animation, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios.
In past years, Disney has announced new cast members for upcoming projects, shown exclusive trailers, and brought out Hollywood’s brightest stars to build up hype for Disney’s slate of films and TV shows. Anticipation is high for what Disney might reveal this year. Will we get a full X-Men movie cast announcement? Will Pixar unveil “Cars 4” or some new original project? Anything can happen, and you’ll want your screen firmly here for the remainder of the evening.
The Disney Entertainment Showcase will begin at 7:00 p.m. PT. Our coverage will begin two hours before. Looper’s Mike Bedard will reporting live from the Honda Center, updating here all evening long.

They also show a new trailer where Billie gets the choice to go to Hex, a place where she’ll finally be accepted after feeling like an outcast all her life. She realizes she’s a witch, and she has some big trouble getting ahold of her powers. And it doesn’t help there’s an evil witch after her, too. Billie gets captured by Beef, Walton Goggins’ character, and he’s there to help out Billie with his infinite wisdom.

It’s the post-credit scene where Judy talks to a neighbor, and then a feather lands on her windowsill. Except in this new footage, we see the feather roll all over Zootopia. It hits a very tiny sign, and then we see a talon land on a newspaper.
“Zootopia 3” is in the works. And it will bring in birds!

He watches old movies of his time as an Avenger. Ultron also exists in his mind and he’s scolded for not being in his human visage. And there’s the revelation that Vision has a son out there.

Jon Favreau segues into “Lion,” a National Geographic project he also worked on. Because he directed 2019’s live-action “Lion King” that made over $1 billion. Isn’t that crazy? Like, it’s wild it made that much money. Anyway, “Lion” is probably very educational.

Showing a teaser for “Oswald.” Combination of animation and live-action where Oswald is running around the Disney building, landing in Walt Disney’s old office. He looks around in awe at all the various knick-knacks before playing a little bit of “Wish Upon a Star” on the piano.

They only used hand-drawn 2D animation for “Oswald,” which is probably the best news we could’ve gotten from this series. And they literally brought back animators who specialized in the medium to work on the show.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit pre-dates Mickey the Mouse, and Walt Disney actually lost the rights to the character. Several years ago, Disney got the rights back, and they’re bringing him into the big time.
“Oswald” is coming to Disney+ this February as a three-part miniseries.

Ke Huy Quan and Gennifer Goodwin have now brought on Maia Kealoha, who plays Lilo in the live-action “Lilo & Stitch.” Stitch appears on screen and is causing mayhem. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Another sneak peek of “Gatto.” A proper trailer this time. There’s a great bit where Nero has to make nonsense cat sounds to see Rocco (Lawrence Fishburne). Really fleshes out the world about what it means to be a cat in Venice, Italy. Rocco is the main cat in charge everyone tries to please while a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black” plays.

They’re showing a clip from “Gatto,” about the main cat, Nero (voiced by Mark Ruffalo), trying to get a violin with a cat’s head carved into the handle from a musician. He recruits a pigeon to aid him on this quest, who dive bombs toward hte musician only to whip right past and slam into a sign.

Pixar just showed off a teaser for “Ghost Market.” Little kid named Kyle (who’s a content creator) enters a market and wants to take some ramen until a mysterious force startles him. And then the kid films some footage about how the movie will be about some hungry ghosts and will arrive in theaters in spring 2028.

He and a horde of men go on a long chase trying to get the ball as it rolls through Springfield. Through Moe’s, through the Duff Brewery. And then at the very end, it rolls right in front of Bart Simpson, who grabs it, causing Homer and everyone else to yell “D’oh!”

And then, there’s the big Mouse House itself. What could Disney Animation have cooking for the big presentation?
The main hall of the Anaheim Convention Center had displays of Anna and Elsa for “Frozen 3,” so we could get a trailer there. More than anything, Disney will probably want to hype up its upcoming “Hexed,” which lands later this year.
Earlier at D23, “Zootopia” director Jared Bush teased a Mickey Mouse project that many are speculating could be a new Mickey movie … potentially with 2D animation as opposed to 3D that’s become standard across Disney. Take it with a grain of salt for the time being. Don’t want to over-promise and under-deliver when the main presentation starts, but suffice it to say, that news would bring the house down.

Pixar has plenty in the works. There’s the original film “Gatto” coming out next year as well as sequels like “The Incredibles 3” and “Coco 2” that could get updates.
Fun fact: “The Incredibles 3” was formally announced at 2024 D23, so we’re sorely due for an update there. But it was also unveiled on August 13 that Pixar would announce an original film at the showcase, too. It’s unclear if that will be “Ono Ghost Market,” which was revealed earlier this year and is set for a 2028 release, or something else entirely.

There was a “Simpsons” panel earlier in the day, but they didn’t offer anything in the way of sequel news. They did show a full new episode, titled “Yellow Mirror,” that will drop on Disney+ on August 28. They also showed stills from the upcoming 38th season of the long-running animated sitcom.
And for all of you gamers, Matt Groening also may have accidentally let slip that “The Simpsons: Hit & Run” could return in some form, but current showrunner Matt Selman was quick to shut that down. Still, 20th Century Studios will likely have some kind of presence, and we’d expect “The New Simpsons Movie” to be a cornerstone of their presentation.

2027 also marks the 50th anniversary of the 1977 release of “Star Wars” the movie that started it all! It was previously announced that there were be a limited theatrical rerelease of “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope” on February 19. We could get a trailer that removes of all those CGI additions that have plagued cuts of the film for the past several decades.

And, of course, all things lead to… Doom. San Diego Comic-Con showcased a new “Avengers: Doomsday” trailer, so there’s a chance we’ll see that again or perhaps some new footage. If nothing else, at least a few of the cast members should grace us with their presence. The confirmed “Avengers: Doomsday” cast currently includes:

X-Men fans were left high and dry for San Diego Comic-Con, but all eyes are on D23 for the official roster of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s X-Men movie.

Jayme Lawson has long been the favorite amongst fans to get cast as Storm, but recently, Suzy Bemba of “Poor Things” has been floated as another possibility.
And the popular theory is that Charles Melton was the frontrunner for Beast, but it’s unclear if that’s a done-deal yet. Should all make for some excellent surprises when Marvel takes the stage…
