Community supports family after video game theft

People are showing support for a family whose massive Nintendo collection was stolen during a home break-in.

SEATTLE -People are showing support for a family whose massive Nintendo collection was stolen during a home break-in.

Roger Holler tells FOX 13 Seattle he collected more than 850 NES games over four decades. He estimates his collection’s value at more than $50,000, but says the real loss is the shared memories with his children and his feeling of privacy.

Since Holler’s story aired on Saturday, community members have reached out wanting to help.

Content creator “A Gamer’s Basement,” who makes video game-related videos, started raising money for the Hollers.

“Just hearing what he was ultimately doing it for: his grandkids. It’s just a man trying to do something for his family, and it just really touched me,” he told FOX 13 Seattle.

A Gamer’s Basement is based on the East Coast. 

Closer to the Hollers, Mike McClure wanted to donate his own NES collection.

“I saw your story on the news there, and I just felt really bad for the family who got their house broken into and all their games stolen and realized I had an old box of these video games upstairs that I don’t use anymore. So, I’d like him to rebuild his collection,” said McClure.

McClure donated more than 40 games to the Holler family.

In total, McClure’s collection included more than 40 NES games, two consoles, controllers, and other accessories which, according to prices on eBay, equaled a total of more than $1100.

FOX 13 Seattle picked up McClure’s collection from him on Monday in Jefferson County and drove to King County to drop it off with the Holler family.

“Helps restore a little faith in mankind,” said Veva Holler.

No arrests have been made in the break-in. The family asks for anyone with details or information to contact the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
