Nintendo Switch 2 players don’t have anything to fear when it comes to the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword, as Capcom has indicated that it’ll be pretty much like the PS5 version.
Based on some of the publisher’s other recent games like Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata, this isn’t overly surprising. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Onimusha: Way of the Sword will have some lower specs, but producer Akihito Kadowaki says that “you may not even be able to feel a difference.”
Famitsu was able to speak with Kadowaki as well as director Satoru Nihei. During the discussion, the Japanese magazine brought up how the Nintendo Switch 2 version felt just as good as the PS5 version.
Kadowaki as well as director Satoru Nihei said the following (translated by Nintendo Everything) in response:
Kadowaki: I think we made it really well, so well you may not even be able to feel a difference. Honestly speaking, we only started working on a Switch 2 version partway through development, but based on how playtesting felt, we thought, “This really could compete with the other platforms.”
If we really talk about the details, there is a difference in the picture quality and frame rate. While other systems can output 60 FPS or higher, the Nintendo Switch 2 version is 30 FPS, but we feel that either is enough to be able to really enjoy and taste the action.
Nihei: The ease of playing while in handheld mode became a talking point amongst the development staff. Being able to fully play the game while laying down in bed is simply incredible, right?
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is planned for September 4, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, up from its initial September 25 release date. Gameplay from this version can be found here.
