With this in merry mind, your bestie may not mind donning a colorful cape for a special San Diego party, one that has a really big heart: It gives back to animals in need. It’s PAWmicon, a fundraiser for the Helen Woodward Animal Center, and it is marking 14 festive years in 2026. Nope, it isn’t taking place in Rancho Santa Fe, where the lifesaving, critter-helping center is located; you’ll want to head Balboa Park, near the Comic-Con Museum, for the furry and creative fun. Good to know? This isn’t an official Comic-Con event, but it does, in a whimsical way, help to launch Comic-Con week. This year’s festivity raises a party-ready howl on Tuesday, July 21, just two days before Comic-Con opens July 23.

FREE ENTRY: There’s no cost to attend the adorable meet-up but be sure to book your spot in advance. If you do want to enter your costume-fab Fido, the cost of entry is $20 before the gathering or $30 once you’re there. Characters seen in games, charismatic villains, and iconic do-gooders are all up for grabs, so think big when dreaming up the most eye-catching ensemble for your pooch. The categories including Flying Solo, Dynamic Duos, and Trios; find out all of the ways to enter, and gather inspiration, at the Helen Woodward Animal Center site. Oh yes: Colorful backdrops, trivia sessions, art vendors, and a spirited scene have long been part of this heart-filled event, so be sure to stop by even if you and your special guy/gal are taking part.
