The Absolute Universe is continuing to prove it’s juggernaut for DC, and the Emerald Archer’s new corner is reaping the rewards

Coinciding with the release of the highly anticipated Absolute Green Arrow #3, writer Pornsak Pichetshote announced that DC Comics has officially extended the series. Originally slated as a tight, six-issue limited run, the urban-horror murder mystery has now been expanded into a 12-issue maxiseries due to critical acclaim and dominant sales performances

    The Announcement

Pichetshote took to Instagram to share the news, admitting he didn’t initially think a book with this specific tone would even get off the ground

No matter how many people talked about it, I wasn’t prepared to believe it. I mean, I wasn’t prepared to believe this book would even exist, because back when I was a DC Comics employee, the company felt nowhere near bold enough to publish something like this. But that’s a testament to how successful the Absolute Universe is under Scott Snyder’s leadership and the care of our amazing editors

    -Pornsak Pichetshote

Pichetshote confirmed that the entire creative team—including superstar artist Rafael Albuquerque, colorist Marcelo Maiolo, and letterer Jeff Powell—are locked in to continue building out this dark sector of the universe

This marks the second major extension for an Absolute launch title (following a similar expansion for Absolute Martian Manhunter), signaling that DC has immense faith in these creator-driven, alt-universe swings

For the uninitiated, Absolute Green Arrow trades the traditional Oliver Queen billionaire mythology for a high-tension, slasher-inspired narrative. The story follows executive protection specialist Dinah Lance tracking down a ruthless vigilante who is systematically executing corrupt elites with arrows

With the book now stretched to 12 issues, Pichetshote and Albuquerque have double the room to explore the fallout of the “Green Arrow Killer” and dig into the dark history of Oliver Queen’s protege, Roy Harper

With issue #3 landing on stands today, the initial six-issue block will take readers through the end of the summer. The newly ordered back half of the maxiseries—beginning with issue #7—is expected to start arriving in late November or early December 2026

Giving Absolute Green Arrow a full 12 issues allows the creative team to properly breathe rather than rushing to a clean resolution by issue #6. If you love the tension, the gritty artwork, and the psychological weight of this iteration, today’s news is a massive win for your pull list

Did you grab your copy of issue #3 today? How do you think the extended run will change the pacing of Dinah’s investigation?
