American game developer and publisher Blizzard Entertainment has announced Diablo V, the latest entry in the Diablo franchise. The California-based video game developer announced it during its BlizzCon 2026 convention. The game is currently under development and has a release window of Spring 2029.
In a website post, the Warcraft and Overwatch series developer noted:
“Diablo V is officially in development and coming Spring 2029. For the first time, players will enter a Sanctuary where Diablo has triumphed and its heroes have been defeated. At the heart of Diablo V lies a defining question: what must you become when the world has already fallen?”
Blizzard Entertainment gave an early look at the game world, classes and more during the “Diablo V: Forging the Next Era” panel. Here are the key takeaways from the panel:
Diablo has conquered Sanctuary
In Diablo V, Diablo is the one shaping the narrative from the very beginning; he has laid the Sanctuary to waste, and the heroes have been defeated. After conquering Sanctuary, the Lord of Terror rules from the throne of Westmarch. You play as the Heir to Westmarch, a threat to Diablo but also someone vulnerable to his influence.
Diablo is reshaping the unstable world of Sanctuary through terror, which means that each time players come back to the game, they may find that the terrain, points of interest, monsters and rewards in Diablo V have changed.
Sanctuary may be annihilated, but you can survive by teaming up with companions as you travel the scorched lands. These allies will also function as vendors and have their own stories.
Diablo V will feature new game classes like Demon Hunter, Monk, and all-new Plague Knight, with more classes arriving later.
Gear inventory and returning features
Gear in Diablo V will carry stat requirements; larger in-game items will take up more inventory space. Runes, runewords, and gear sets return.
More details on Diablo V will be revealed starting in 2027; the developers said that they will give regular updates on progress, design philosophy, and new features of the game as they proceed further.
