The manga scores its third chart-topper after leading both physical-store and e-book metrics, while World Trigger slips to No. 2 and The Heroic Legend of Arslan enters at No. 3

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime has returned to the top of Billboard Japans Book Hot 100, with the mangas 33rd volume debuting at No. 1 on the chart released October 15. The new installment, credited to Taiki Kawakami, Fuse and Mitz Vah, gives the popular TenSura franchise its third No. 1 on the ranking and leads two of the charts most important consumption metrics.
Volume 33 ranks No. 1 in both brick-and-mortar sales and e-books while placing No. 10 in e-commerce, giving the title enough strength across formats to take the overall summit. Independent sales data from ORICON also underline the scale of the launch: the volume topped Japans weekly manga ranking with an estimated 143,183 copies sold during the October 5-11 tracking period.
Last weeks leader, Daisuke Ashiharas World Trigger Vol. 30, drops to No. 2 overall after ranking second in both physical stores and e-books. The Heroic Legend of Arslan Vol. 25, by Hiromu Arakawa and Yoshiki Tanaka, debuts at No. 3, while Yu Nagiras novel You, Like a Star jumps from No. 13 to a new peak of No. 4 following the October 9 theatrical release of its live-action film adaptation.
That movement illustrates what makes Billboard Japans relatively new books ranking different from a simple bookstore sales list. Launched in November 2025, the Book Hot 100 combines data from physical bookstores, online retail, e-books, subscription and library activity, and social-media engagement. That means a title can compete through several different forms of reader activity rather than relying exclusively on printed-copy sales.

The success of Vol. 33 also extends a particularly strong 2026 for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Volumes 31 and 32 had already reached No. 1 on the Book Hot 100 earlier in the year, giving three consecutive new installments of the manga chart-topping performances. The wider franchise has also remained active across anime and film, including a fourth television season and the 2026 theatrical feature That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea.

The chart also shows how heavily manga currently shapes Japans overall book market: nine of this weeks top 10 titles are manga volumes, with You, Like a Star the only conventional novel in the group. For Rockum, the result offers another view of Japans entertainment economy beyond music charts – one where publishing, anime, film and established franchises increasingly operate as parts of the same larger cultural business.
