Beloved Marvel Disney+ show set to return for two more seasons

The Marvel Disney+ shows didn’t exactly come out swinging. It took the studio some time to figure out the formula to craft projects structured like TV series rather than six-hour-long movies. Furthermore, the timing of some releases was less than ideal, as characters like She-Hulk and Moon Knight debuted on the small screen years ago but were never seen again. On top of that, the increasing production of Marvel projects meant that their quality was declining. Fortunately, all of this has changed in recent memory.

Marvel Studios has scaled back the number of projects it releases each year in an attempt to go back to basics. Additionally, long-running TV shows aim for yearly releases, with Daredevil: Born Again and X-Men ’97 being standout examples. Better yet, it seems the superhero giant will only double down on this strategy moving forward, as another series will have new content for many more years to come.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has been renewed for season 3 and will reportedly come back for season 4

Let’s do this one last time. His name is Peter Parker, he was bitten by a radioactive spider, and now he’ll save the day over and over again in his own animated show. Back in January 2025, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios Brad Winderbaum announced that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man had officially been renewed for a third season, although season 2 has yet to air. But as is usually the case with Marvel, the superhero giant is already looking beyond what has been publicly announced.

As reported by Murphy’s Multiverse, a fourth season of the iconic Disney+ show “has been given the go-ahead as well.” Better yet, these releases shouldn’t be far apart from one another. Winderbaum stated during an interview with Collider that the gap between seasons 1 and 2 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was always going to be “bigger.” Fortunately, subsequent seasons will “come out on an annual cadence” after that.

Historically, Marvel has a tendency to release Disney+ shows in January, with WandaVision, Echo, Wonder Man, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man being the perfect examples. Now, it seems the latter will take over this release window, as the second season of the wall-crawler’s animated show is scheduled to be released in January 2027, with seasons 3 and 4 likely coming out in January 2028 and 2029, respectively.

Spider-Man has one of the most iconic rogues’ galleries of any comic book hero ever created, perhaps just second to Batman. As such, there are countless stories with countless bad guys that could be adapted for the small screen. Additionally, Marvel can also make the most of this opportunity by testing new ideas in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man ahead of the theatrical releases.

Just as villains like Scorpion and Tombstone appeared on the small screen before sharing the spotlight with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, the same could happen with other characters moving forward. That way, the studio could see how fans react to certain storylines and ideas in an animated show before investing millions in bringing them to life on the big screen.

Season 2 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will feature two big debuts in the form of Ghost-Spider and Eddie Brock. Furthermore, Peter will get to bond with the symbiote, meaning it’s all but confirmed that Venom will wreak havoc across New York at some point in the show (although it remains to be seen whether that will happen next year or in season 3).

The future is looking bright for the wall-crawler, as Marvel could consistently drop new seasons of his animated show in January from next year onwards. In a similar vein, March has become the month of the Devil thanks to annual releases of Daredevil: Born Again. But in case that wasn’t enough, July may be home to new X-Men ’97 content as well. Marvel television may not be producing as many shows as it used to during its early days, but it’s nice to know the studio has finally found some much-needed consistency.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 will be released in January 2027.
