The Bones Film hitman-meets-marriage-swindler anime <a href="https://comicvibe.com/big-bang-theory-spin-off-tv-show-returns-today-on-hbo-max-for-season-2/” title=”Big Bang Theory Spin-off TV Show Returns Today on HBO Max for Season 2″>returns to the bridge from Episode 1 for its new art, with a recap video of Gero’s bride hunt; director Motonobu Hori talks the manga’s whiplash tone shifts and the heaviest workload of his career; streaming January 2027.
Bandai Namco Filmworks has released the Season 2 reveal video and main visual MARRIAGETOXIN, the battle-action anime about a hitman hunting for a bride. The new season’s streaming premiere is set for January 2027 streaming premiere.
Based on the manga “MARRIAGETOXIN” by Joumyaku and Mizuki Yoda, serialized on Shueisha’s Manga Plus, the series follows Hikaru Gero, heir to the Gero clan of assassin “Poison Masters,” who needs to marry and produce an heir so that his sister won’t have to. He teams with Mei Kinosaki, the expert marriage swindler he was hired to kill, and the two set out to find him a wife.
The new visual returns to the bridge where Gero saved Kinosaki in the first episode of Season 1: Gero holds the syringe that is the Poison Master’s tool of the trade, while Kinosaki stands beside him with a bouquet. The teaser recaps Gero’s marriage hunt and the Masters he faced along the way.
Director Motonobu Hori, who helmed Netflix’s Super Crooks for Bones and whose credits include Carole & Tuesday and Metallic Rouge, explained that the challenge of the manga was how fast it changes register. “There are serious moments, gags, touching stories, sad stories — all mixed together, and switching over in short turns,” he said. “Even while reading the manga, I thought it would be a difficult work to turn into anime.”
What convinced him it could work was the pacing of short-form video. “In the short-form videos we watch every day, a cooking recipe is followed by footage of an accident, which is followed by a clip of a cute animal,” Hori noted. “We are used to seeing scenes switch that quickly. If we could capture that same sensation, it would actually make for an enjoyable series.”

Hori also described Season 1 as the heaviest production of his career. “It being a Bones Film production is part of it, and most of the works I have directed have had a heavy animation workload — but even among those, MARRIAGETOXIN, for all that its gags and comedy make the content look light, has been the heaviest of anything I have done in terms of the actual work,” he said, adding that the whole of Season 1 “felt like swimming across an ocean without ever stopping — completely exhausting.”
Production on Season 2 “is moving along smoothly,” the directed added, promising returning Season 1 characters, a new marriage prospect for Gero, and scenes that deepen the relationship between Gero and Kinosaki.
Hori attended Anime Expo this past July with Haruki Ishiya, who voices Gero, and Shion Wakayama, who voices Kinosaki, where the three introduced their favorite scenes to the crowd. “The audience cheered at every single scene,” he said.
Kimiko Ueno handles series composition and scripts; Kohei Tokuoka is character designer and chief animation director; SANZIGEN handles 3DCG; Taisei Iwasaki and yuma yamaguchi compose the music. Bones supervises production, with Bones Film producing the animation. Ishiya and Wakayama lead a cast that also includes Anna Nagase, Mariya Ise, Asaki Yuikawa, Soma Saito, Hinano Shirahama, Simba Tsuchiya, Haruka Shiraishi and Isamu Yusen.
Dan Sarto is Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Animation World Network.
