Whether you’re choosing the perfect costume for Halloween, a costume party, a comic book convention, or just having fun pretending to be someone else for a little while, dressing up as a superhero is always a great choice. Even those who already live in a fictional world agree with this. There are countless examples of characters assuming famous comic book roles in movies that take place at Fan Expos, classic Halloween episodes of TV shows, and other shows that require this type of activity. Some of these movie and TV show superhero cosplays can be great inspiration for some fans…

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said AI will change who can be creative, as new tools and technologies will allow people who previously couldn’t be creators to create content at a certain quality and scale. But he also acknowledged that bad actors will use the technology for “illicit purposes” and that children growing up today will have to be taught not to believe something just because they see a video. Meta executives shared their thoughts on how AI is impacting the creator industry at this week’s Bloomberg Screen Time conference. At the beginning of the interview, Mosseri was asked to address…
Within the anime fandom, cosplay is one of the most popular ways for fans to express their love for various characters. A new online survey has officially revealed which anime character reigns as the most cherished cosplay choice for Japanese women. According to PR Times, the aforementioned survey was conducted by Japan-based internet research group NEXER INC. In response to the survey question, “Which anime character would you like to cosplay as?” A total of 300 female participants submitted their choices along with brief explanatory comments. Taking first place with a total of 35 votes was Usagi Tsukino, the main…
Slow Ventures’ Creator Fund has invested $2 million in Jonathan Katz Moses, a popular woodworking content creator with nearly 600,000 followers, nearly 75 million video views, and his own woodworking tools. This is the first investment in Slow’s $60 million creator fund since its launch in February. This fund aims to support creators in starting their own businesses, with the belief that what makes creators successful as influencers also makes them great founders. Billy Parks, partner at Slow Ventures and lead investor in the deal, told TechCrunch that the role of creators has changed significantly over the past decade or…
Japanese politicians’ attempts to use the Gundam series to attract voters have backfired, drawing criticism not only from fans but also from rights holder Bandai Namco. Japanese politician and Reiwa Shinsengumi leader Taro Yamamoto cosplayed as the infamous Char Aznable in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), leading to accusations of political exploitation and a fundamental misunderstanding of the character. The video, shot in front of the life-size Unicorn Gundam statue in Tokyo, shows Yamamoto wearing a striking red outfit complete with a blonde wig and sunglasses, imitating Char Aznable’s alias, Quattro Vagina, from Zeta Gundam. He also introduced…
The beta version of a new decentralized social media app was made available to the public on Tuesday, two days before the deadline to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations. Own is a modern alternative to TikTok that features short videos as well as a swipeable feed of text posts and images, as well as other features such as direct messaging. However, a new app aims to disrupt the market by leveraging blockchain technology and the token economy. Most notably, the app’s content creators can earn money without any minimum requirements for number of followers or posts. The app was developed by…
YouTube on Tuesday released a report showing just how influential the creator economy is. According to research from Oxford Economics, YouTube’s creative ecosystem contributed more than $55 billion to the U.S. GDP and supported more than 490,000 full-time jobs. When we talk about the creative ecosystem, we’re not just talking about creators. This includes people who work with YouTube creators (video editors, assistants, publicists), as well as people who work at creator-focused companies (like Patreon, Spotter, Linktree, etc.). But this number continues to grow, even though venture capitalists are no longer pouring money into the industry like they were about…
Rep. Yvette Clark (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-Texas) on Thursday launched the bipartisan Congressional Creators Caucus to support the creator economy. Making a living from the Internet once seemed like a pipe dream, but this industry has become a reality. Oxford Economics estimates that the YouTube ecosystem alone created more than 390,000 full-time equivalent jobs in 2022. Goldman Sachs also estimates that the value of the creator economy could reach $5 trillion by 2027. However, the U.S. government currently lacks sufficient regulatory oversight and understanding of the creator economy, and the creator business is in dire straits. “The…
“Day 25 of starting your life over again,” Reagan Lynch narrates in the short video. “Now, after my relationship ended and I had to leave my life behind, I found myself wandering alone in a country I had never seen before, in a town I had just moved to.” It’s such an appealing hook that Lynch starts every video this way. She drags us around the aisles of a British grocery store (obviously very different from the American one) and bravely compliments strangers’ outfits in a feeble attempt to make new friends. Within months of posting her first video, Lynch’s…
