Attack on Titan is coming to theaters this fall, bringing the beginning of Hajime Isayama’s groundbreaking story and its harrowing end to 4DX and ScreenX cinemas in Japan.

September 9 has been officially recognized as Attack on Titan Day in Japan, and to celebrate, two movies compiling the first half of the iconic anime’s first season and its finale are coming to theaters. The catch is that these showings are only in Japan, and they aren’t your run-of-the-mill movie theaters; Attack on Titan Part 1: Guren no Yumiya is heading to cinemas for ScreenX, 4DX, and ULTRA 4DX screenings.

If you’re familiar with what 4DX is, you’ll know that this is kind of wild. If you don’t, it’s a unique type of screening that takes place in theaters with special features like chairs that rumble, gusts of wind, water splashes, and other effects that make the viewing experience so immersive it’s like being on a theme park ride. (You’ve probably seen those viral videos from 4DX screenings of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey — they’re an intense thrill ride, and one that AoT fans won’t want to miss.)

Prepare to rappel off towers and roofs with the Scouting Legion’s 3D Maneuver Gear, flee from oncoming titans, and dodge flying debris — not to mention braving the steam that pours off of the Colossal Titan when it kicks through the walls of Shiganshina.

These screenings are listed for October 23, 2026, but don’t worry if you can’t make it to Japan in time to catch the show; Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, a film compilation of the series’ epic finale, is also coming to ScreenX cinemas in 2027, though no specific date has yet been listed.

ScreenX is different from 4DX in that it shows films on three screens, making it feel like viewers are totally surrounded by the action. We can only imagine how intense this type of screening will be for Eren’s terrifying final transformation and the all-consuming chaos of the Rumbling.

This is one of several fun activities happening for Attack on Titan fans. Taking inspiration from the Nine Titans, Kodansha is also organizing 99 special events, including making the first 99 chapters of the manga free on its Magapoke app for 99 hours ending on September 13.

Kodansha has even made an official YouTube channel specifically for Attack on Titan, which will host “exclusive content for fans worldwide, including limited-time anime streaming and special videos you won’t find anywhere else.” Currently, it’s streaming episodes from Season 1 every Wednesday, though these are only available to viewers within Japan.

There’s a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks if you’re an Attack on Titan fan. This is the latest big news to come from the franchise after Eren’s English voice actor, Bryce Papenbrook, said he was so dedicated to convincingly selling one of the show’s most iconic moments that he literally unhinged his jaw to portray his character’s emotional pain.

In related news, Attack on Titan 3 was shown off at Summer Game Fest this year and is set for release this December. Like the games before it, players will be able to make their own character and experience the events of the Rumbling firsthand in this video game adaptation of the critically-acclaimed anime series.
