‘Please look towards Assam’: Singer Papon urges India to help as floods claim 68 lives

Singer Paponhas made an emotional appeal for support as Assam continues to battle one of its worst flood crises in recent years. The singer, who hails from the state, took to social media to urge people across India and the world to come forward and help those affected by the devastating floods that have displaced thousands and claimed several lives.
Papon urges support for Assam
Sharing a video message on X, Papon described the scale of the devastation, saying the situation this year was unlike anything he had witnessed before.
“Hello everyone, hello India, hello world. I just wanted to bring to notice what’s happening in Assam right now. The devastation that’s happened because of the floods this year. It rains a lot here, there are floods, but you can’t imagine the situation this time,” he said.
The singer spoke about the widespread destruction caused by the Assam floods, highlighting the loss of homes, livelihoods and lives. “Villages are flooded, people are still homeless, hundreds of people are missing, people have lost their lives… so many animals have died. It’s a bad situation, so please spread the word,” he added.
Appealing for immediate assistance, Papon urged people to stand together in the face of the humanitarian crisis. “I request everyone in India and across the world to please look towards Assam. It’s humanity, you know, we all must come together. Whatever we can do, we need to do it quickly. We’re all doing our bit here. If you want to help, please come forward,” he said.
Papon thanks volunteers
Papon took to his X account again to thank the people and volunteers who came forward and carried out flood relief drives.
“Thanking all the volunteers in the flood affected areas for carrying out the work with so much heart! A Big, thank you and God bless you all!” he said.
According to official figures released by the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS), the death toll in the Assam floods has risen to 68, while several districts continue to grapple with severe flooding and displacement.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal described the flood situation as “very serious” and said the Centre and the Assam government were working together on rescue and relief measures. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been closely monitoring the crisis, has remained in touch with the Chief Minister, and has assured the state of all possible assistance as rehabilitation efforts continue.
