Artist Club anniversary festival to feature French-Bangla opera fusion
French opera is a form of musical theatre that combines singing, orchestral music and dramatic storytelling. In Bangladesh, music has evolved through diverse traditions, ranging from classical compositions to folk songs shaped by rivers, rural life and spiritual beliefs. Although French opera and Bangla music emerged from different cultural histories, both express human emotions through music. Bringing these traditions together offers an opportunity for cultural exchange and a new way to experience music across languages and borders. Next month, Dhaka will host an initiative seeking to bridge these musical worlds.

The Artist Club Limited will mark its first anniversary with a 10-day cultural festival from November 11 to 21. The festival will bring together folk music, visual arts and opera, culminating in a French-Bangla opera fusion performance on November 21 at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel InterContinental Dhaka. Organisers describe the performance as the first of its kind in Bangladesh.

Speaking at a press conference at the hotel today (<a href="https://comicvibe.com/october-28s-new-marvel-comics-the-full-list/” title=”October 28's New Marvel Comics: The Full List”>October 26), the club’s president, Sujit Mostafa, said the initiative was unusual in the country’s cultural landscape and could contribute to intellectual development by exposing audiences to different artistic traditions.
Frédéric Inza, deputy head of mission at the French Embassy in Dhaka, said, “If we receive a positive response to this festival, we will organise more events like this in the future.”

The closing performance will feature French opera singer Véronique Pain and pianist Fabrice Maitre, alongside the festival’s wider programme celebrating Bangladesh’s musical heritage.
From November 11 to 20, the folk and ethnic music festival will showcase traditions including Baul, Bhatiali, Bhawaiya and Gambhira, as well as songs associated with Lalon Shah and Hason Raja. Musical traditions of the Manipuri, Chakma, Marma, Santal and Hajong communities will also feature, bringing the country’s diverse musical heritage into focus.

The festival will also host the “Art Trilliard Award: Young Painters of Tomorrow”, a nationwide competition for artists aged 20 to 35. Although the Artist Club began its journey three years ago as a platform for promising young artists, it was formally registered in 2025. Since then, it has organised more than 200 editions of its regular Friday Musical Evening programme.
