JoJo shares why she has confidence in Emma Roberts as an executive producer
JoJo has spoken positively about Emma Roberts taking on an executive producer role for Disney’s upcoming Aquamarine television project. The two stars previously appeared together in the 2006 film, and Roberts is now returning to the franchise as executive producer while also reprising her role as Claire Brown in the show’s pilot.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, JoJo explained why she believes Roberts is the right person to help guide the new project. “The pilot script is amazing, and Emma has developed things from the ground up before. So, the fact that she is executive producing it, she should be. She knows what she’s doing, and I am so excited about it,” she said.
The discussion also touched on whether JoJo could appear in the new adaptation. When asked if she would reprise her role, she responded, “If the stars align and it’s meant to be, then of course, yeah.” She continued, “I think it’s going to be beautiful. Disney+ knows what they’re doing.”
Disney+ and Disney Channel ordered a pilot for the new Aquamarine project in June. Sarah Watson is writing the series, while Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, who directed the 2006 movie, is attached to helm the pilot. According to the show’s official synopsis, “When teenaged Coral moves to a dreamy seaside town, she begins unraveling the truth behind her mother’s disappearance—and discovers her mother was a mermaid, awakening magical powers in Coral just as secrets beneath the waves threaten to surface.”
