Apple’s first foray into computerized headsets has not gone particularly well.
The latest evidence of that comes courtesy of AppleInsider, which reported this week that Apple has cut at least 60 workers from its Apple Vision Group, which worked on the Vision Pro headset. This move came just a couple of weeks before longtime CEO Tim Cook is set to hand the reins over to John Ternus, though it’s not clear at the time of publication who exactly ordered these cuts.
The “why” is not that hard to figure out, though. Apple hasn’t given us official sales numbers for the Vision Pro headset, but recent reports suggest the device has not done especially well for itself. It’s pretty easy to surmise any number of reasons for that, especially the $3,500 price tag at launch, which recently went up to $3,700 as part of widespread Apple price increases caused by RAMageddon.
