But the father-daughter duodidhave a great eveningwhileattending the premiere ofUp Against Itduring the 2026 Toronto International Film Festivalon Sept. 17.
For the rare outing, Stella supported Antonio—who shares the 29-year-old with ex-wifeMelanie Griffith—in a black long-sleeved, asymmetric dress featuring draping along the bust and bodice. Meanwhile, the actor matched perfectly in a black suit and a printed button-up. The pair also accessorized with chic sunglasses.
Although Stella was sure to cheer on the 66-year-old—also stepdad to Melanie’s stepsonJesse Johnson, 43, sonAlexander Bauer, 41, and daughterDakota Johnson, 36—at the annual film festival, she isn’t too interested in following in his acting footsteps. In fact, she earned her only acting credit in Antonio’s directorial debut,Crazy in Alabama(1999), opposite her mom.
“Stella is not so much of an actress,” Antonio explained toHELLO!magazine in January 2025. “She wants to be behind the camera, and she’s driving herself into that. She has made some commercials.”

“She’s now doing short movies,” he continued, “and I suppose that she is going to end up doing a feature film, but she’s too shy to be in front of the camera. She prefers to be behind it.”
Stella’s perspective is a stark contrast to her sister, who recently wrapped filming onColleen Hoover‘sVerity, also starringAnne HathawayandJosh Hartnett.
“Dakota is the opposite. Dakota just jumps in front of the camera,” theMask of Zorroactor explained, but also emphasized, “They have their own approach.”
While Antonio—who is in a relationship withNicole Kimpel—and Melanie split in 2014 after nearly two decades of marriage, the exes have maintained a deep friendship.
“I’m a very good friend of my ex-wife,” he told Fox News Digital in November 2023. “She’s a wonderful woman and I still respect and support that idea that everything that happened between her and me for 20 years was beautiful.”
Even years after their breakup, he emphasized just how important their bond is.
“If I go to Los Angeles, the first thing there that I do is call her,” Antonio added. “We go for dinner, we just get together, the whole entire family. And so that is very important. Not only to us but to the rest of the family.”
