An ASUS Gaming Monitor Saved A Life By Stopping A Stray Bullet While Running Call of Duty, Owner Says It Was The “Best $280 I Ever Spent”

Proof that gaming gear can truly save your life, as this ASUS monitor took a literal bullet for its owner during Call of Duty / Image credits – u/antisocialnae

ASUS’ products can surprise their owners with top-tier build quality, but the latest incident proves that the company is in a league of its own. An unsuspecting gamer was playing Call of Duty and noticed that his TUF VG258QM caught a stray bullet, averting a serious injury that could have easily ended in tragedy.

A stray round penetrates siding and drywall before becoming lodged in the back of an ASUS TUF gaming display

The images have been shared by Redditor ‘u/antisocialnae,’ with the post mentioning that the dramatic ordeal took place late at night while the user was deep into a multiplayer gaming session. Sudden loud bangs outside caught the gamer’s attention, and realizing the noise was uncomfortably close and definitely not coming through the headset, the Redditor instinctively contacted emergency services.

The authorities advised checking the interior walls for any signs of a gunshot breach, and that was when the truth finally sank in. The owner discovered a clean bullet hole that pierced the exterior siding and the inner drywall directly behind the gaming PC. Turning his attention back toward the desk setup, the user noticed severe impact damage directly behind the primary screen.

Miraculously, there was no exit puncture on the front glass, but that was because the stray round had traveled through the exterior siding of the building, pierced the drywall right near the desk arm mount, and struck the rear housing of the ASUS TUF gaming monitor, reducing its impact capability. Still, we shouldn’t discount the display’s ability to stop a gunfire round, because it ended up saving the person’s life.

Despite the harrowing incident, the owner took the incident in surprisingly good spirits, noting that he now has to deal with the shock and clean up the plaster dust. Going over the Reddit thread, we noticed that an ASUS representative commented, saying, “I can’t imagine the roller-coaster ride you’re on right now dealing with what happened over the last week. What matters most is that you’re alright.”

As for claiming a warranty on the TUF gaming monitor, the representative says, “I think that would fall under either CID (even though it technically isn’t) or some ‘act of god’ sort of thing normally. But this kind of situation is so unusual that I’d like to think we’d take a look at something like this on a case-by-case basis to consider supporting. Doesn’t mean we can support, but if you do customer service long enough, there are cases that obviously stand out from the rest.”

In short, the incident turned into a happy tale for the gamer, as not only did he obtain a second chance at life, but ASUS might hook him up with a replacement monitor.
