Epic Games has been generous with free Fortnite skins lately, and the current season has a couple of them as well. Some of these skins require a simple account linking procedure, which takes only a minute or two. Others require competing, levelling up, or even getting other video games.
Sorting them by what they actually cost is the fastest way to work out which ones are worth your time. So here is every free Fortnite skin available in September 2026, what each one genuinely requires, and exactly when each skin expires.
What counts as a free Fortnite skin
The word free covers four very different situations in Fortnite, and the gap between them is massive. While some skins are genuinely free and only require you to link your accounts, some require Epic Games purchases that can cost more than $60. Because of this, we split free skins into different categories.
| Category | What it actually costs | Example |
|---|---|---|
| No cost | Account linking, XP, or quests | Explorer Emilie |
| Purchase-gated | A full-price game or gift card on the Epic Games Store | Doctor Eggman |
| Skill-gated | A top placement in a tournament | Mega Man |
| Access-gated | Travel, a specific carrier, or a specific region | Forsworn Trooper |
Strictly speaking, a new player can claim three outfits in September 2026 without spending anything. Another skin, GHOST Monks, costs money, but it’s tied to a gift card purchase, which means that you can use its balance for other cosmetics. Every other skin on this page carries a real price tag, a skill requirement, or a regional lock.
How to get free Fortnite skins with no purchase
This section of our guide lists all Fortnite skins that are genuinely free. Obtaining these generally takes only a couple of minutes.
Explorer Emilie and Mr. Dappermint
Linking a LEGO Insiders account to an Epic Games account drops both skins into your locker, each with a Fortnite style and a LEGO style. LEGO Insiders is free to join, and the whole process takes about two minutes.
To unlock these skins, follow a couple of easy steps:
- Sign in at epicgames.com
- Scroll to Apps and Accounts
- Select Connect on the LEGO option
- Log in with your LEGO Insiders account and approve the connection
Both skins appear after your next Fortnite launch, though Epic notes the grant can take a few hours to reach your locker.
There is no announced end date on this promotion, and it has been running since December 2024. That makes it the most reliable free skin route in the game, and it’s especially good for new players. Considering that these skins have been available for nearly two years, it’s unlikely that Epic will remove them anytime soon.
Free Yeddy skin in Fortnite
Epic has run several mobile-exclusive outfits under the Yeddy name, each tied to a short quest chain that only appears in Fortnite’s mobile app. The original arrived in March 2026 to mark the game’s return to the Google Play Store.
Requirements have varied between variants. Some asked for an Invite a Friend action plus a single account level. Others required gaining a level while partied with a friend. Both were visible only in the Quests tab on a mobile device. In case you need to gain levels to unlock this skin, you can use some of the best XP maps in Fortnite to do it quickly.
Open the Fortnite mobile app and check the Quests tab before planning around this one, as the campaigns rotate and Epic rarely announces the closing date in advance. Android has the widest availability, giving almost everyone a chance to grab the free Fortnite skin. iOS access depends on your region, and if you are unable to get the game on your Apple device, you won’t be able to add Yeddy to your locker.
GHOST Monks and the gift card

The first time you redeem one of the new Fortnite gift cards on your Epic account, GHOST Monks will be added to your locker. The offer closes on December 31, 2026. This offer is only valid for a new Fortnite gift card and only works in regions where the new cards are actually sold.
The new cards launched across a limited group of countries and are still rolling out, so players outside those markets cannot trigger the reward no matter which retailer they use. Furthermore, there is no extra reward for redeeming older V-Bucks cards.
Epic has said GHOST Monks may reach the Shop as a paid item after December 31, 2026.
How to get free Fortnite skins from Epic Games Store purchases
Epic has begun attaching Fortnite skins to Epic Games Store game purchases. The skins cost no extra money, though the games they come with are full price. This is part of a plan to launch over 100 new gaming Fortnite crossovers every year, and so far, it’s worked out very well for the company.
These are some of the bonus skins you can get with Epic Games Store purchases:
| Skin | Game purchase |
|---|---|
| Doctor Eggman | Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds |
| Dylan Faden | Control Resonant |
| Adam Smasher | Cyberpunk 2077 |
| Grace Ashcroft | Resident Evil: Requiem |
| Kliff | Crimson Desert |
| Perlica | Arknights Endfield |
| Soul | Phantom Blade Zero |
| The Traveler | Cronos: The New Dawn |
| Coach Gabi | Rematch |
| Dave the Diver | Dave the Diver |
These bonuses run through the Epic Games Store only. Buying the same title on Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox grants nothing, and refunding the purchase removes the cosmetic from your locker afterwards.
How to get free Fortnite skins from tournaments in Fortnite

Many big collaborations come with their own tournaments, allowing you to unlock skins by competing against others. Tournaments are generally split into regular and mobile-only tournaments, with a few thousand players winning the skin and other cosmetics. These skins usually get a cup a day or two before the outfit reaches the Item Shop.
In general, players from bigger regions get more rewards. For example, players from Europe may get 500 skins, while those from Oceania only get 50. Fortunately, you may freely change your region and compete on other servers in an attempt to unlock a free Fortnite skin.
The good news is that, even if you don’t unlock a skin, you can easily get a consolation prize. In general, Fortnite cups allow you to unlock a free item once you earn eight points, which can be done in a couple of matches.
The rarest free Fortnite skin right now

The Forsworn Trooper is free in the sense that it costs no V-Bucks. However, it’s nearly impossible to obtain.
To unlock Forsworn Trooper, you need to physically ride the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim or Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. Another requirement is having linked MyDisney and Epic accounts and accepting Hondo’s mission in the parks app beforehand.
