Lucasfilm has debuted the teaser trailer and poster for Season 2 of Ahsoka. The season premieres January 20, 2027, on Disney+. Series creator Dave Filoni, who is also Lucasfilm president and chief creative officer, took the stage last Friday at D23 with Rosario Dawson, Hayden Christensen and Eman Esfandi to bring the crowd up-to-speed on the latest series happenings.
Season 2 is set after the fall of the Empire and the rise of the New Republic, with Ahsoka Tano journeying beyond the known galaxy to confront what it means to be a Jedi. She and her Jedi apprentice Sabine Wren travel a perilous world to find their way home, while Hera, Ezra, Zeb and Chopper face Grand Admiral Thrawn and his allies, who want to push the New Republic into war. Fans of the series will know the backstory of all those folks… and more. The live-action series picks up the story of Star Wars Rebels, the animated show Filoni created; Wren, Hera, Ezra, Zeb and Chopper all began there.
Dawson returns in the title role. The cast includes Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lars Mikkelsen, Eman Esfandi, Ivanna Sakhno, Rory McCann and Hayden Christensen.
Lars Mikkelsen plays Grand Admiral Thrawn, the part he voiced in Rebels across its third and fourth seasons before carrying it into live action. Eman Esfandi plays Ezra Bridger, while Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Hera Syndulla, both characters brought over from the animated series.
Filoni wrote the season and executive produces with Jon Favreau and Carrie Beck. He directs alongside Jennifer Getzinger, Bryce Dallas Howard and Anders Engström. Karen Gilchrist is co-executive producer; John Bartnicki and Joan Schneider produce. VFX studios include Clear Angle Studios, Folks VFX, ILM, Image Engine Design, and SSFX.
Season 1 needed 4,000 visual effects shots produced under VFX supervisor Richard Bluff; it won a Creative Arts Emmy for costume design and earned a nomination for outstanding special visual effects. It’s now streaming on Disney+.
