Ahsoka Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on January 20, 2027. Lucasfilm dropped the date and a teaser trailer Friday night at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, with Dave Filoni bringing Rosario Dawson, Eman Esfandi, and Hayden Christensen out to deliver it.
“This season is massive,” Dawson told the room. “The stakes are higher, the battles are bigger, and the threat of Thrawn looms large for Ahsoka, her crew, and the entire galaxy.”
The ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 Teaser Puts Anakin Back in Her Path
The teaser is built around two things. Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) is back and pulling the Imperial remnant together into something that looks like a war. And Anakin Skywalker is challenging his former Padawan again.
Season 1 used Anakin as a memory, a training exercise, and a question Ahsoka had not answered. Christensen standing onstage at D23 for a season set after the Empire fell says that thread is not a flashback device anymore.
Esfandi is back as Ezra Bridger. That matters because Season 1 spent eight episodes getting to him, and this is the first season where the show can actually do something with him.
Thrawn Is the Whole Point
GOC flagged Thrawn as the real draw back when the first teaser hit, and Season 2 is where that pays off or does not. He was converted from Legends into canon on the strength of Rebels, and he has spent two decades being the one Imperial who wins by being smarter than everyone in the room rather than by choking a subordinate. Season 1 delivered him at the very end, and Season 2 has to actually use him.
Filoni created the series and now runs the studio outright. He was named president and chief creative officer of Lucasfilm in January 2026, alongside co-president Lynwen Brennan, when Kathleen Kennedy stepped back to producing after 14 years. The connective tissue between Rebels, Ahsoka, and whatever comes next runs through him, and now so does everything else.
