CINCINNATI (WKRC) – One of Greater Cincinnati’s largest celebrations of African culture is returning to the riverfront this weekend.

AfriFest: Taste of Africa takes place Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Sawyer Point Park. The free, family-friendly event is expected to draw thousands of people for a day of live entertainment, authentic cuisine, cultural performances, shopping and community engagement.

The festival is organized by the African Professionals Network (APNET), a Cincinnati-based nonprofit that works to connect the African diaspora through cultural programming, business initiatives and community outreach. Organizers say more than 10,000 people attended last year’s festival and expect an even larger crowd this year.

Visitors can experience African and diaspora cuisine from food vendors and food trucks, enjoy live music, DJs and traditional dance performances, browse fashion, artwork and handmade goods from local artisans, and connect with nonprofits and small businesses in the festival marketplace. Family activities, educational workshops and cultural demonstrations will also be offered throughout the day.

“AfriFest is more than a festival; it is a movement of joy, connection and impact,” said APNET President Prince Ellis. “We invite the entire region to experience the heartbeat of Africa right here in Cincinnati.”

This year’s festival also marks the conclusion of AfriFest Week, a six-day celebration held from July 13-18 featuring events centered on African heritage, youth, business, professional networking and community engagement across Greater Cincinnati.

Admission to AfriFest is free and open to the public.
