With San Diego Comic Con just days away (where does the time go?), we’re already getting some fun announcements coming our way. One of these is the launching of a new franchise, Centaur Riders: Cataphract Legacy. The fantasy series invites readers into a new dark fantasy world that the creators hope will launch a whole universe of stories
To clarify, Centaur Riders does not refer to people riding centaurs, which was our first assumption. Judging by the initial artwork we’ve seen, there is at least one centaur riding a unicorn in the story, which, admittedly, took us a second to get our heads around. That is a lot of legs, after all. However, the artwork by Marvel and DC artist Marco Turini is slick and detailed throughout, which helps sell the world better than anything else
Illuminous, the production and creative services company founded by DC & Milestone Comics veteran Joseph Illidge, has is leading development of this franchise for creator Danny Potter. The first step will be launching the series’ new Kickstarter campaign with a 64-page comic book drawn by Turini and the last centaur, as he tries to find the truth of what happened to his people
The idea behind the project seems to be that this first comic book is a launching point for a larger world. Whether that is direct sequels or stories that simply take place in the same world, we’ll have to wait and see
