A Mystery Playtest Could Be For PlayStation’s Fairgames, Giving Us Our First New Look At The MIA Shooter In Over Three Years

The first gameplay of PlayStation’s live-service shooter Fairgames has seemingly appeared online of the multiplayer heist game since it was announced over three years ago

On September 10, a user posted on the Gaming Leaks And Rumors subreddit that they had been invited to a playtest for a game that sounded a lot like Fairgames. They shared a link to the playtest of something codenamed “Project Espresso.” A video included on the site looks a lot like Fairgames, and the game’s description on Player.gg also sounds an awful lot like Sony’s previously announced co-op live-service shooter all about breaking and robbing places for loot.

“Project Espresso is a third-person PVPVE competitive action game where competing teams race to infiltrate high-security locations, steal valuable cargo, and make it out before their rivals.”

From what I can tell, the video has been removed or shut off on the playtest page. But before that, Kotaku was able to see it, and it matches a video shared byRadec on Twitter.

At the moment, it hasn’t been confirmed if this playtest and the accompanying footage is indeed for Fairgames, but everything seems to line up with Project Espresso being that live-service shooter we first saw back in 2023 and haven’t seen again since. Kotaku has reached out to Sony about the footage and the playtest.

In 2025, just around two years after its reveal, it was reported that the game had been internally delayed due to negative feedback from earlier playtesting. It was around this same time that Jade Raymond left Haven Studios, the team working on Fairgames. She had founded the company in 2021 and had been its CEO up until her departure in 2025.

At this time its unclear what the future of Fairgames is, but this new playtest seems to indicate that, unlike Hideo Kojima’s next game, Sony apparently has more confidence in Fairgames and is sticking with it. This despite PlayStation’s live-service track record and past cancelations. The initiative’s most recent stumble included a reported reboot of Horizon Hunters Gathering following bad playtests earlier this year.
