A Guide to All Upcoming Romantasy Adaptations: 29 Books Becoming TV Shows & Movies

    •October 25, 2026, 9:00 am

Grand Central Publishing, Entangled Publishing, Slowburn, The Blue Box Press, Wednesday Books, Bloom Books, Del Rey, Red Tower Books, Amulet Books, Harper Voyager

We’ve seen our fair share of contemporary romance books hit the screen over the past couple of years — the adaptation boom seems to have really taken off with Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty in 2022 — and it’s nowhere near over. The adaptation landscape will, however, evolve. The next phase you need to gear up for is romantasy.

Romantasy adaptation announcements have rolled out for years, ever since the genre became a BookTok sensation. But due to their fantastical nature, these kinds of books take significantly more time to develop than real-world movies or shows like, say, Off Campus. Prime Video’s Fourth Wing TV show, based on Rebecca Yarros’ mega-popular novel, is leading the way with the most momentum in recent months. (More on that below.)

It’s not the only romantasy book that’s been optioned or that has officially entered the development stage, of course. We’ve put all of them in one place, along with their development statuses, release dates, cast lists, and all the other latest details that’ve been shared about them so far. You can return to this page for updates and new romantasy adaptations as they’re announced.

    Fourth Wing

Cast:Esther McGregor (Violet), Emilio Sakraya (Xaden), and more TBA

Prime Video’s Fourth Wing TV show adaptation is taking flight. On October 15, 2026, the actors playing Yarros’ leads were revealed. There’s no known production timeline yet, though the show has been in development since 2023.

Yarros is executive-producing with Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy, who will also direct the first episode. Locke & Key co-creator Meredith Averill is the showrunner. Michael B. Jordan‘s Outlier Society is also at the helm, with president Elizabeth Raposo and Stefano Agosto involved. Kilter Film’s Jonathan Nolan and Athena Wickham are exec-producing alongside Premeditated Productions’ Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark.

    Quicksilver

In December 2024, Callie Hart’s dark romantasy, Quicksilver, got picked up by Netflix, and it’s getting the movie treatment. Elizabeth Cantillon is heading up the development. Hart, an executive producer on the film, shared her vision for the movie with Swooon.

There’s no director yet, but script has been written. At a November 2025 event for Brimstone, the second book in the series, Hart said, “Movie stuff takes a really long time. We have a script, and now we need to get a director. Now we need to get casting going. So we’re a ways off from filming unfortunately.”

    Powerless

Deadline announced that Powerless, based on the YA book trilogy by Lauren Roberts, is moving forward at Amazon MGM Studios in June 2025. During a September 2025 Good Morning America interview, Roberts confirmed that the adaptation is “happening, it’s in the works.”
