A Brand new day it was for calcutta’s spider-man fandom as Kolkata Creative Crew brought the city’s super-fans together

    .

With great power comes great responsibility”, and the Kolkata Creative Crew (KCC) understood its spirit perfectly as they brought together the city’s biggest screening for Spider-Man fans. Just the Sunday after Spider-Man: Brand New Day was released, KCC organised a fun-filled special screening at INOX (City Centre, Salt Lake), giving Calcutta’s cosplayers, Marvel enthusiasts and Spider-Man fans an opportunity to come together, watch the film and celebrate their shared fandom.

The special screening was a celebration of a community that has long existed across the City of Joy but rarely gets a dedicated platform to showcase its passion. Fan screenings, cosplay gatherings and similar events happen quite frequently in other metropolitan cities, while Calcutta, despite having a fandom running into the thousands, often misses out on such opportunities. KCC’s initiative is therefore making a significant difference by creating a space where fans can express themselves, meet fellow enthusiasts and celebrate the characters they love.

On a sunny yet cloudy Sunday, INOX at City Centre Salt Lake was transformed into a blue-and-red parade of superheroes and super-fans. The venue was filled with cosplayers dressed as different versions of Spider-Man from across the multiverse, alongside characters from the wider Spider-Man universe, Marvel heroes and more. The enthusiasm in the room made one thing abundantly clear — everyone had taken their assignment seriously! From carefully put-together costumes to the sheer excitement of being surrounded by like-minded fans, the fandom was impossible to miss. The celebration was made even more exciting with cool giveaways, including ultra-cool Spider-Man figurines that delighted fans.

Kolkata Creative Crew plans to host many more such screenings for fans across the city, bringing together communities through their shared love for cinema and superheroes. Their next big event will be for Avengers: Doomsday, which promises to be an even grander celebration, featuring more fan activities, exciting experiences and a larger gathering of superhero enthusiasts. And with the city’s cosplayers, Marvel fans and Spider-Man enthusiasts coming together under one roof, it truly felt like a Brand New Day for Spider-Man fans in Calcutta.

Koustav Mukherjee gave us a cool pose as Peter Parker. He said: “Ever since the trailer dropped, I’ve been excited to watch the film, and watching it this way, surrounded by fellow fans, is the best way to experience it.”

“I’m a huge Spider-Man fan and have been watching all the Spider-Man films since I was a kid, along with the Marvel films. I’m really excited to watch the film today, and it’s amazing to see how enthusiastically everyone has turned up here,” said Imon Chakraborty holding the Mjolnir.

Spider-Noir and Samurai Spider-Man posed together. “I made this Spider-Noir outfit myself for this event specially. Seeing so many fans together feels really great,” said Gourab Chakraborty.

A heated moment between The Punisher and Spider-Punk! “I’m primarily a DC fan, but I’ve always been a Spider-Man fan too because I could relate to Peter and his struggles while growing up. I also relate to Frank Castle (The Punisher), so seeing these two characters together in one film is just amazing,” said Suman Maitra.

“I’m dressed as Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, today. It’s so great to see such a big turnout,” said Sanjana Chakraborty.

We loved how Sarbani Bhowmick carried off her crochet web top for the screening. She said: “Spider-Man: Brand New Day was the most anticipated film of the year, and I’m so excited to finally watch it. I’m also loving being able to share my excitement with fellow fans.”

Some cool Spider-Man and Venom live-action figurines.

“Spider-Man has always been more than just a superhero; he is a character that generations of fans have grown up with and connected to. With this screening, our aim was to bring Calcutta’s Spider-Man and Marvel communities together and create an experience that goes beyond simply watching a film. Seeing so many fans, cosplayers and enthusiasts turn up in their favourite Spider-Man-inspired looks has been incredibly exciting for us. We wanted everyone to feel part of one big community, celebrate their love for the character and make memories together. The response today has been overwhelming, and this is only the beginning for KCC,” said (l-r) Anirban Dutta, Arnab Saha, Isha Dey, Trisha Roy, Sanjana Chakraborty and Narayan Ghosh, founders of KCC.
