9 New Pop Race and Mini GT Collectibles for Your Wish List

Think of what archaeology and history will have to say about life on earth during the 20th and 21st century. In 1,000 years from now, those who will study the two disciplines will look at photos and videos we uploaded online, study the remains of our buildings and tools, and perhaps laugh at our inability to coexist peacefully.
  

I wonder what they’ll think of our diecast collecting habits. Will any of the current 1/64th-scale model cars survive for that long in the first place? And if they do, will they stir up any controversy in the science community or will it be obvious what they were for? It’s hard to think someone might have to decipher our current language and content the way we have to go about hieroglyphs for instance.

Anyway, we had another busy week in our tiny little corner of the world, with new collectibles from Mattel, Tarmac Works and also from Pop Race and Mini GT. Speaking of the latter, some of you may have already seen a pre-order for the Scania 770S A6x4NA Car Transporter. After all, if these big rigs were a huge hit over in the Elite 64 series, why wouldn’t they work for MiniGT, too?

I think my local dealer was asking for a little over $100 for one of these, and I still haven’t decided what to do about it. There’s no doubt it’s quite a bit more exciting than the two new James Bond models, even though there’s an extra degree of realism to the Aston Martin DBS thanks to heavily damaged bodywork, shattered windshield and missing driver’s door.

The Lotus Esprit S1 isn’t half bad either, and it makes me realize how much of a toy the Hot Wheels version really is. Anyway, has any of you spotted more information about Pop Race’s new “venture”? It seems that all of the company’s products that don’t feature opening parts will be joining the Works Model sub-brand. The heat is on!

But I’ll get to that topic when I know more about it, as I’ve only seen photos of two of the cars there (the Pandem GR Supra and the JGTC R33). If you were at the Gravity Show in Birmingham this weekend, you may have spotted two special Pop Race models there. I’m talking about the blue and white RWB 930 and the Mad Taxi Pandem GR Yaris, both of which have a limited run of just 999 units.

I don’t think you can still get them for $27 online, though. The Pandem GR 86 is on its way with yet another iteration, and I’ve frankly lost interest in this one by now. Hyuma Kato’s LB-Super Silhouette RX7 almost seems to be late to the party if you ask me, as we’ve already seen it over at Inno64 and Mini GT by now. This hype race is slowly becoming annoying, and the LB-Works fatigue is real.

I’m not fond of seeing yet another Pandem E30 either, but a new take on the Honda Civic EF9 might not be so bad after all. It’s a brand new casting for Pop Race, and the JTC livery certainly adds a bit more excitement to the equation. I noticed one fan was asking for the manufacturer’s version of the EK9 Type R. For now, I’m thrilled to have the Spoon NSX at home as few other cars can ever come close to it.
