Amid Toxic backlash, Kantara star Rishab Shetty supports fellow Kannadiga Yash: ‘I stand with you’

Kantara star Rishab Shetty has come out in support of Yash and director Geetu Mohandas, praising the actor for fully adhering to his role and calling the film a daring experiment.

Sinch Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups has hit theatres; the film has generated a massive discussion online. The film has garnered mixed reviews from audiences, but has also earned the support of some of the most beloved stars in the Kannada film industry. National Award-winning Kannada actor Rishab Shetty has extended support to Yash and filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, calling Toxic a “daring experiment” and hailing the conviction with which Yash has essayed his part.

Late Saturday night, the Kantara star took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) account and shared his views about Toxic. He wrote, “As an artist, when you play a character, you try to bring it to life from the bottom of your heart. And here, I am truly impressed by the conviction with which the struggle of a powerful man has been portrayed.”
Rishab also stated that the film may not have met the usual expectations, but one could not neglect the hard work put in by the entire cast and crew. “Maybe the plot and driving characters are not on the usual track on which most films travel, but that doesn’t mean the track is wrong. The effort that goes into telling a story, and the journey it takes from being a thought in the mind to becoming a film on screen, is humongous,” he said.

Appreciating Yash’s performance, he wrote, “@TheNameIsYash Sir, hats off to the way you have surrendered yourself to a character and a world that demands a larger-than-life performance. I could clearly feel that in every single scene. It’s not easy to give the audience an experience of how guilt multiplies and increases the toxicity in life. I stand with you for attempting this daring experiment, sir.”
Meanwhile, Rishab Shetty is the only big Kannada star to extend support to Yash. Kichcha Sudeep and Upendra have also appreciated Toxic and hailed Yash for experimenting with something unique.

Toxic was one of the most awaited Indian films of 2026. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, it tries to showcase Yash in a different setup and a never-seen-before role. The high-octane action thriller also stars Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, Nayanthara and Rukmini Vasanth.
