ActivistSonam Wangchuk went on an indefinite hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in June, extending his support to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which had called for the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. In Delhi, the police shifted him to a hospital, where he continued his strike. Later, Salman Khan urged Sonam to call off his hunger strike in a social media post, which turned into a viral meme. The activist has now responded to Salman Khan’s viral remark.

During an appearance on Prakhar Gupta’s podcast, Sonam was offered a T-shirt with Salman Khan‘s picture on it and the viral ‘Sonam, it’s done bro’ line. He was asked if he was aware of the superstar’s comment, which had also generated a wave of reactions on social media. Handing over the T-shirt with a smile, Sonam said, “Majbooriyan hoti hongi sabki. Aage peeche, daayen baayen dekhna padta hai. Lekin unhone kuch kaha uski main izzat karta hoon (Everyone must have their own compulsions. You have to consider all sides and look at the situation from every angle. But I respect whatever he has said).”

In July, Salman took to X to voice his support for students protesting over the NEET paper leak in July. Taking to X, the actor said he was glad to see students across the country coming together to demand a better education system. A day later, he urged the protesting students to end their protest and appealed to activist Sonam Wangchuk to call off his hunger strike, saying he would even send him homemade food.

    What did Salman Khan say?

The Battle of Galwan actor wrote, “The students are a top priority, educationally and security-wise, so they need not worry and have their parents worry for them. The Honourable Prime Minister has tweeted, and I am sure that he will take strict action against all those people who are responsible for this leak. So students, plz go back to your parents n homes. Sonam, it’s done, bro. Don’t extend this. Keep the spirit for another day if there be a need, which I doubt, n eat something. If u want, I will send u food from home.”

What’s next in Salman Khan’s pipeline?

On the work front, Salman Khan will be next seen in Apoorva Lakhia’s Maatrubhumi, alongside Chitrangada Singh. The film was initially slated to release in April, but was postponed with no new release date announced yet. Meanwhile, the actor is all set to return as host for Bigg Boss 20, a role that he has been associated with for over a decade.
