Furious Season 2 Confirmed: When Could the Disney+ Thriller Return?

Furious is officially coming back for Season 2. Disney+ has renewed the Emmy Rossum-led thriller ahead of its Season 1 finale, with the first eight-episode run set to conclude on Monday, 31 August. The series streams on Disney+ in the UK and internationally and on Hulu in the US, where it has continued to build a strong audience since launching in July. Clearly, viewers are just as hooked as we are!

Created by Elizabeth Meriwether, Furious stars Rossum as FBI agent Alice Black, who becomes locked in a cat-and-mouse pursuit of Catherine, a calculating serial killer played by Lola Petticrew. Disney says viewing has grown week by week, with one-day views for Episode 7 up 40% compared with the premiere. The series was also Certified Fresh at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes when it launched and currently sits at 98%.

Has Furious Been Renewed for Season 2?

Yes, Disney+ has officially renewed Furious for a second season. The announcement arrived just days before the Season 1 finale, meaning viewers already know the story will continue before finding out exactly where Alice and Catherine are left when the current run ends. Disney has not announced how many episodes Season 2 will contain or when production will begin. There is also no confirmed returning cast beyond the renewal itself, although Rossum is both the star and an executive producer on the series.

What Is Furious About?

The official synopsis reads: “Furious follows an FBI agent, Alice Black (Emmy Rossum) on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer (Lola Petticrew). Both walk their own paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur.”

Season 1 stars Emmy Rossum, Lola Petticrew, Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Scoot McNairy, with guest appearances from Jake Lacy, Rob Delaney, Hope Davis, Rob Yang and Steve Way. The series is loosely inspired by the 1987 psychological thriller Black Widow and was created, written and executive produced by Meriwether, whose previous credits include New Girl, The Dropout and Dying for Sex.

When Could Furious Season 2 Be Released?

There is no Season 2 release date at the moment, and Disney has not confirmed when filming will begin. With the renewal arriving before Season 1 has even finished, the next run is clearly moving forward, but we will have to wait for production details before there is a clearer idea of when it could return to Disney+.

In the meantime, the Season 1 finale arrives on Monday, 31 August, and will likely give us the first real indication of what Season 2 might explore. The full first season is available to stream on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US.

Furious is produced by 20th Television and Searchlight Television. Rossum executive produces for Composition 8 alongside Ronald Bass, Matt Olmstead and Sam Hoffman, with Brian Kirk also executive producing and directing the first two episodes.
