Welcome back to The Beat Digest, a twice-weekly round-up of the biggest comics-related news stories we’ve missed every Tuesday and Friday. Is there a story out there you think we should cover? Be sure to let us know in the comments.

§ Via ScreenRant, AHOY announced Dragonproof, a graphic novel by writer Eric Palicki (Black’s Myth) and artist Giulia Lalli (Eight Limbs) that will be crowdfunded through Kickstarter. A contemporary fantasy book, Dragonproof follows a young woman who uncovers a government conspiracy to tame dragons for warfare, after stumbling upon one dying during a camping trip, and sets about freeing them. It marks AHOY’s second crowdfunding project, following The Forgotten Divine. You can sign up to be notified of when it launches here.

§ Tickets went on sale for Avengers: Endgame Encore, the rerelease of 2019’s blockbuster hitting theaters on September 25. Marvel confirmed the rerelease will include an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday (out December 18). Fans who revisit it in IMAX or on Infinity Vision-certified screens will get an additional sneak peek of Doomsday. Endgame‘s total domestic haul of $858.4 million was recently surpassed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day: whether the rerelease will help it regain its place remains to be seen.

§ Netflix dropped the trailer for season two of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, releasing Thursday, September 17. The second season, set in the run-up to Valentine’s Day, Upside Down-infected flowers start sprouting around Hawkins, which Nikki and Max start selling before they realize what’s going on, as well as the appearance of “‘ghostly’ apparitions, and a swarm of hate sprites.”

§ Deadline reports Sony is developing a live-action film of John August and Simón Estrada‘s graphic novel Wolf’s Belly, with Alfonso Cuarón attached as producer. The book, published earlier this year by Roaring Brook Press, follows “Little Red Riding Hood” and her grandmother after they find themselves in a magical dimension containing everything the Big Bad Wolf has eaten. August, whose other credits include Big Fish and the Aladdin remake, will write the film’s script himself.

§ Via Variety, the Independent Film Company (formerly IFC) and Sapan Studio have acquired the North American distribution rights to Tangles, the animated film version of Sarah Leavitt‘s graphic memoir, for an Oscar-qualifying run in select theaters later this year. The movie, which premiered at Cannes to a standing ovation earlier this year, follows Leavitt after her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in the 1990s, and features the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Abbi Jacobson, Bryan Cranston, Seth Rogen, and many more.

Now for news from this year’s gamescom event in Germany, which will run until Sunday, August 30:

§ A trailer dropped for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight‘s Mayhem Collection DLC, releasing Friday, September 18 (the day the game also arrives on Nintendo Switch 2). The DLC adds the Joker and Harley Quinn as playable characters with their own story mission; a Mayhem Mode that pits them against Task Force X; and a Sinister Pack offering skins and items like a Batman Who Laughs outfit. It will be available to buy separately, or as part of the game’s Deluxe Edition upgrade. The game will also add a new Absolute difficulty setting, for free.

§ Telltale revealed The Wolf Among Us Remastered will be released on Thursday, October 29, and that the new edition of the game will offer a black-and-white Noir Mode to make it resemble a classic detective film. It is now available to wishlist on Steam, Epic, PlayStation, and Xbox, and will also be available on the Switch.

§ Scott Pilgrim EX got a DLC (available now) titled Back in the Band, which adds Stephen Stills, Kim Pine, and Knives Chau as playable characters. The game also got a free update, adding an arcade mode called Coin-Op Chaos, that includes drop-in or drop-out multiplayer, and more. To celebrate, the base game is now available to buy on PC and consoles for 20 percent off until Wednesday, September 9.

§ Finally, Saber Interactive’s Turok: Origins got a story trailer, confirming a release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC in Spring 2027. The game, which can be played solo or co-op, follows the Order of the Turok as they battle dinosaurs and the alien Xenia in the Lost Lands. It marks the first Turok game since 2019’s delisted isometric release Escape from Lost Valley.
