Marvel’s dark, horror-centric imprint is officially escalating its nightmare vision.
Marvel Comics has offered a fresh look inside its Marvel Midnight universe, revealing artwork and official solicit details for the third wave of issues arriving on December 16. The new teases pull back the curtain on the extreme body-horror escalation, toxic team dynamics, and cosmic dread driving Midnight Spider-Man #3, Midnight Fantastic Four #3, and Midnight X-Men #3.
Here is your full breakdown of what lies ahead for Marvel’s darkest timeline this December:
Midnight Spider-Man #3: Extreme Body Horror & Synthetic Mutants
- Written by: Phillip Kennedy Johnson
- Art by: ScieTronc
- On-Sale Date: December 16, 2026
THE PARKER INCIDENT! As Peter Parker frantically searches for a way to reclaim his humanity, Oscorp hunts the emerging urban legend the Spider-Man in their first breakthrough on the path to a post-mortality future. Meanwhile, in Oscorp’s deepest, most top-secret labs, Doctor Octavius has used the lessons of the “Parker Incident” to engineer the world’s second synthetic mutant… a living horror that will make even Spider-Man obsolete.
Phillip Kennedy Johnson on the Escalating Body Horror:
“I need to be careful not to spoil what the iconic spider is, and what it’s doing to Peter… It’s a mystery we’ll slowly reveal over the course of the series,” Johnson told IGN. “I want people to have their own theories, and for those theories to escalate and evolve as we slowly reveal what’s happening to Peter. But I can say the body horror escalation from issue to issue is extreme. The hope is that by the time our readers read issue #3, they’ll be hard-pressed to imagine where it can even go from there. We’ve had to get very creative with the fringe science of the story to ensure there are still horrific new vistas to explore 25, 50, and 100+ issues from now. Every time an issue hits shelves, I want our readers sweating and shivering all the way until the next one hits.”
Midnight Fantastic Four #3: Cosmic Horror at Los Alamos
- Written by: Benjamin Percy
- Art by: Kev Walker
- On-Sale Date: December 16, 2026
FINDING THE HIDDEN WORLD! The Four head to the Jornada del Muerto desert in New Mexico, where the first atomic bomb was detonated by Oppenheimer and the Los Alamos labs. And here they discover the residue of another world, left behind by a crack in the firmament.
Benjamin Percy on the Toxic Family Dynamic:
“This is an origin story,” Percy previously told ComicBook.com. “Reed doesn’t know Sue and Johnny and Ben, and even as their stories intertwine, a very different breed of ‘family’ is born—far more toxic and complicated. These characters are all facing horrors within that will help them pursue the horrors without. Their backstories are all different, and so are their futures, so whatever you think you know about FF is about to be revised through the lens of cosmic horror.”
Midnight X-Men #3: Holy War and the Last Survivors
- Written by: Jonathan Hickman
- Art by: Matteo Della Fonte
- On-Sale Date: December 16, 2026
NO MUTANTS. NO MERCY. Weapons of Earthly and Heavenly construct. Realms that exist between old failures and the shiny new sins of expedience…
The newly revealed cover teases the brewing holy war in the shadows between mutants, humans, and Empyres, with Cyclops—standing as the last of the X-Men—taking a young mutant under his wing as existential threats loom overhead.
