Netflix welcomes back two shows this weekend. One is a heartfelt sitcom with a female comedian, and the other is a gripping Tyler Perry drama. The final two shows are a charming Hulu comedy and a Peacock cyberattack thriller. All five shows can be streamed in the U.S.
Beauty in Black season 3
Tyler Perry’s explosive first Netflix series returns
Tyler Perry is quickly becoming Netflix’s version of Taylor Sheridan at Paramount+. Perry, who writes and directs many of his projects, now boasts a stacked roster of movies and shows at Netflix. Beauty in Blackis probably his most notable Netflix show to date, and its third season picks up in the immediate aftermath of a shocking power move.
Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams) pulled off a massive move when she teamed with Horace (Ricco Ross) and her former adversary, Mallory (Crystle Stewart), to put most of the Bellarie family behind bars. The Undeclared War season 2
The fight against cyberterrorism
The Undeclared Warcertainly dramatizes its cyberwarfare elements to make a more compelling television show. However, the show’s depiction of cyberterrorism feels like a familiar threat faced by many nations today. Malware threats are real, something the Peacock thriller hammers home.
Simon Pegg stars as Danny Patrick, the head of operations at the U.K.’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), and his team is still dealing with the aftermath of a Russian cyberattack. Yet this season features a mole among the GCHQ employees, someone whose existence threatens the entire organization.

Leanne season 2
An old-school sitcom with Southern charm
Leanneis the type of show that would have been in primetime on a broadcast network during the 1990s. That sentiment makes even more sense knowing Leanne‘s co-creators include Chuck Lorre, the sitcom maestro behind Two and a Half Menand The Big Bang Theory. The titular Leanne is Leanne Morgan, who plays a fictionalized version of herself.
In season 1, Leanne’s husband, Bill (Ryan Stiles), left her for a younger woman. In season 2, Leanne explores a potential relationship with Andrew (Tim Daly), though she might still have feelings for Bill. Plus, Leanne finds herself having to care for her elderly parents, which does not go according to plan. Overall, Leanne is a wholesome sitcom about a woman searching for a fresh start and learning to rely on her family.

Adults season 2
Life is hard, but at least you have friends to help
I find it endlessly charming to watch a bunch of 20-somethings attempt to become “real adults.” Part of what makes it amusing is that they will constantly mess things up again and again. It’s funny to witness some suffering, but it’s even better when they succeed. Those qualities are what make Adults so appealing.
Five friends—Samir (Malik Elassal), Billie (Lucy Freyer), Paul Baker (Jack Innanen), Issa (Amita Rao), and Anton (Owen Thiele)—find themselves living together in Samir’s childhood home in Queens. This group tackles many of the challenges facing young professionals, from work to romance. At the end of the day, this show is about the power of friendship and how, no matter how bad things might get, your friends are always there to pick you up, usually in hilarious fashion.

Dark Matter season 2
Apple TV’s mind-bending sci-fi thriller
In my best Brad Pitt voice, “What’s in the box?” In Dark Matter, “the Box” is a device that makes multiversal travel possible. Chicago resident and physicist Jason Dessen (Edgerton) lives with his wife, Daniela (Jennifer Connelly), and son, Charlie (Oakes Fegley). One night, Jason is kidnapped by an alternate version of himself, Jason #02. The original Jason becomes trapped in an alternate reality, while Jason #02 takes his place in Chicago.
In season 2, Jason and his family are trying to find a new world, safe from any threats. However, safety might be a pipe dream after discovering the bodies of over a dozen other Jasons. Admittedly, Dark Matteris a bit confusing at first, so put your phones away for a bit and pay attention. Once the mystery clicks, it’s a dimension-hopping thrill ride that champions its sci-fi elements.
