Loose Women star Denise Welch has made one of her biggest career breaks. Welch will now star in a Netflix comedy.
Denise Welch is officially set to star in the massive upcoming Netflix comedy series Marbles alongside Bafta winner Timothy Spall
The Sun reports that the actress, who has spent 25 years on Loose Women, has decided to latch on to a six-figure deal with Netflix. Loose Women is ITV’s long-running daytime talk show, and Denise Welch has been one of its best-known panelists, appearing regularly since joining the program in 2005.
Netflix described the new show as a “multi-generational comedy about a couple raising ridiculously lively young boys, while caring for ridiculously difficult ageing parents.”
It asks: “How do you stop your kids from hiding your keys in a bowl of milk, or sleeping in a cardboard box, while convincing your seventy-five year old father to move out of your bloody house? For Sam and Samantha, this is their life. It’s a glorious mess. And it’s about to get messier.”
The show will be penned by Richard popper, the creator of hit Channel 4 sitcom, Friday Night Dinner. She will star alongside BAFTA winner Timothy Spall.
A TV insider said: “Denise wasn’t kidding when she said she was going to be devoting her time to pursuing acting because this is a prestige project. Not only is it a cast full of stars, it comes from a brilliant writer and the fact that a streamer as big as Netflix wants her shows she is in genuine demand.”
Other stars who have made the leap to Netflix after an ITV career include Holly Willoughby, Emma Willis and Amanda Holden.
Welch shot to fame in “Coronation Street” in 1997. She juggled shows including the BBC’s Waterloo Road with being a panel member on Loose Women. The actress also starred on Channel 4 drama “Tip Toe”. Her notable career has been attracting offers from big streaming platforms.
