PlayStation 5 gamers can secure free store credit in limited

Geoff Keighley opened yesterday’s Gamescom Opening Night Live by acknowledging pricing issues within the industry and just how expensive it is to enjoy gaming these days.

He didn’t exactly offer a solution, instead premiering a bajillion more titles that’ll put a strain on our wallets, but it would be unfair of us to expect him to.

Here, however, is a quick and easy way that you can snag some free PlayStation Store credit that may help ease that aforementioned strain.

In PlayStation’s all-digital future, it’ll perhaps become the only place we can actually buy games from, so it’s not a bad idea to start figuring out ways that we can save money on the PlayStation Store.

Your best move is to purchase a PlayStation gift card if there’s a pricey title that you want to purchase, as you can actually nab yourself some free credit in the process to lower the cost.

Get £12 of free credit on £100 PlayStation gift cards ahead of September’s AAA launches

For example, a £100 gift card for PlayStation is currently available on Loaded at a 12% discount, so it will set you back £87.99.

That means that you’ll secure around £12 worth of free store credit.

It’s not the only example either. On Loaded, you can also get £20 of credit for £18.99, £70 for £62.99, £120 for £104.99, or £150 for £134.99, to name just a few examples.

Of course, buying gift cards willy-nilly won’t save you money. There’s no point splashing £100 just for the sake of getting some of that credit for free.

However, the gift card method is definitely one to consider if there’s a pricey title you’re looking to purchase anyway.

Marvel’s Wolverine, for example, launches on September 15 and currently retails for £69.99 on the PlayStation Store.

If you plan on picking it up, then purchasing a £70-£100 gift card at a discount and securing some bonus free credit makes the purchase more cost-effective.

The gift card method is all about planning and being savvy with your finances.

It’s not a hack limited to the UK. A quick internet search for gift cards will likely pull up plenty of discounted options in your region – nor is this only something you can do on PlayStation.

Steam, Xbox, and Nintendo all run offers from time to time on their gift cards.

With these gift cards being digital too, you’ll get your funds instantly, so it shouldn’t add too much time to making your PlayStation Store purchase.

Marvel’s Wolverine is far from the only pricey game to be landing on PlayStation next month.

The Blood of Dawnwalker will cost you £59.99, Control Resonant retails for £49.99, Silent Hill: Townfall will cost £44.99, while Onimusha: Way of the Sword is charging £64.99.

We couldn’t blame you for wanting to pick up more than one of those highly anticipated titles.

It’s not as if the release schedule slows down in October, with Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and Phantom Blade Zero among the games on the way, followed by Grand Theft Auto VI in November.

There’s no word on when Loaded’s current gift card offers will expire, but again, these types of offers are pretty readily available, so next time you go to hit pay on the PlayStation Store, perhaps stop to think if there’s a detour you could make to save some money.
