The legal dispute surrounding Ranveer Singh’s controversial exit from Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 has escalated further. Now fresh reports suggest the Dhurandhar actor’s legal team is opposing the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) intervention in the matter.

According to a report in Mid-Day, Ranveer Singh has reportedly said that if the dispute with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment cannot be resolved between them, then it should be taken to court rather than decided by the producers’ body.

The development comes after Excel Entertainment reportedly sought damages of Rs 45 crore from Ranveer Singh over his decision to walk out of Don 3.

The dispute reached IMPPA after the makers complained about Ranveer’s exit, which they claim resulted in substantial pre-production losses.

Further to the Mid-Day report, Ranveer’s legal team has mentioned that the actor never had a formal agreement with Excel Entertainment, instead, they just did a Memorandum of Understanding [MoU].

Ranveer has also submitted a formal defence countering the Rs 45 Crore claim.

His legal team has reportedly asked IMPPA to dismiss the complaint, arguing that the association does not have the authority to adjudicate the dispute, the report further stated.

The lawyers have also indicated that if Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani believe they have a valid claim, they can approach a court.

Ranveer’s side has further warned that any resolution passed against the actor by IMPPA could prompt him to take legal action.

The latest development comes after the actor’s father Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, appeared before IMPPA on August 18 to present his son’s side. The association had earlier postponed a scheduled meeting after receiving Ranveer’s legal communication.

IMPPA president Abhay Sinha has confirmed that both sides have now presented their respective arguments. The association’s legal team is examining the documents and issues raised by Ranveer’s side as well as the producers. IMPPA will decide its next course of action after completing its review.

What is the Don 3 dispute about?

Farhan Akhtar’s directorial venture, Don 3 was announced in 2023 with Ranveer Singh taking over the iconic role previously played by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. The film was expected to go on floors in the first half of 2026.

Ranveer had reportedly begun preparing for the project in November 2025, including basic action and stunt training that was funded by Excel Entertainment. However, things changed in December when the actor informed the producers that he wanted to leave the project.

The producers subsequently claimed that they had already incurred significant expenses on the film, including overseas location scouting, crew arrangements, training, costumes, travel and sets. Excel Entertainment reportedly put its losses at around Rs 45 crore and sought compensation from Ranveer.

The controversy later spilled into the wider film industry. FWICE had issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer in May, but withdrew the action after the actor challenged the move legally.

Talking about Ranveer, he has moved on to his next project, ‘Pralay, which is a zombie thriller directed by Jai Mehta, son of filmmaker Hansal Mehta.
