Crunchyroll’s Solo Leveling Replacement Just Dodged Its Biggest Mistake

Ever since Summer 2026 began, there have been many new anime, but one in particular has been emerging as a series similar to Solo Leveling. The modern anime, based on the manhwa, established its own identity by featuring a protagonist on a journey of powering up after receiving a second chance through an enigmatic power system. The first two seasons gradually saw its protagonist, Sung Jinwoo, level up, and by the end of the second season, he had emerged as the strongest person in his entire nation. These two seasons saw Jinwoo face many hardships, making every level-up feel truly rewarding.

Thus, Tomb Raider King, with the emergence of a similar enigmatic power system that gives its protagonist, Seo Jooheon, a second chance by sending him back in time, seemed to imply a similar progression system. However, as soon as Seo Jooheon got his second chance, the series quickly saw him achieve multiple accomplishments without ever facing a setback. Whatever tookSolo Leveling a long time to build, Tomb Raider King simply handed to its protagonist. However, the latest episode finally slows down the pace and establishes a major villain for Seo Jooheon, which is already beginning to add gravity to Jooheon’s revenge quest.

Tomb Raider KingFinally Slows Down Its Fast-Paced Narrative and Gives the Story More Gravity

In Tomb Raider King Episode 7, the episode picks up where it left off, with Jooheon having incapacitated the CEO of TKBM, Kwon Taejoon, who was the bane of Jooheon’s existence in the future because of his monopoly over the relics and his treatment of Jooheon like a dog. With this, it seemed that Jooheon had finally gotten his revenge, and with him already having fought the Egyptian gods who are implied to be responsible for the emergence of relics and tombs, it seemed that Jooheon had already reached the power ceiling that protagonists usually reach much later in a series. Even in Solo Leveling, which saw its protagonist level up extremely quickly, it took Jinwoo a while to become the strongest in his nation.

However, the latest episode reveals that Kwon wasn’t actually incapacitated. Instead, he is essentially immortal like the Greek warrior Achilles and has only one weakness, although Jooheon still hasn’t discovered it. With this trope, Kwon continues to be Jooheon’s major obstacle, which is necessary for the plot given that Jooheon’s journey is essentially a revenge story. Furthermore, the latest episode also introduces a prominent character who will aid Jooheon in his revenge journey. It introduces Yoo Jaeha, who is well-versed in restoring even high-level relics, as Jooheon perfectly establishes that Kwon is also Jaeha’s enemy.

Tomb Raider King has been very fast-paced since its commencement, effectively inviting comparisons with Solo Leveling by giving its protagonist many of the same cool elements much earlier in the series. However, the two series are ultimately very different, as Tomb Raider King is a revenge story while Solo Leveling is about conquering and helping others. It is nice to see that what fans considered Crunchyroll’s new series similar to Solo Levelingand a potential replacement in its absence is now forming its own identity and emerging as something different by expanding its plot rather than simply maintaining its fast pace for the sake of cool moments.

‘Clayface: Celebrity Dirt’ #1 is one of the coolest debuts of the year

    By JamesJuly 8, 20260

Clayface has always been a favorite of mine when it comes to the Batman’s rogues gallery.
