S.C. (WIS) – The 11th annual Soda City Comic Con filled the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on Saturday, drawing cosplayers, artists, and pop culture fans from across the Midlands
The event is advertised as the Midlands’ premier comic event. Hundreds of artists, vendors, guests and cosplayers filled the convention center, along with celebrity signings and meet-and-greets.
Organizers say the event is designed for the whole family.
“You’ve got toys from the 60s and 70s, comics from the 70s up; there’s just something that just touch all generations,” said Donald Brock Jr., founder of Soda City Comic Con.
“It’s a fun family event. We invest a lot in children, my partner and I both have kids so we have kids cosplay on Sunday and we really wanna make a fun family event that everybody can enjoy.”
The Holton family attended in costume as a group. Dominique Holton said morning preparation took time, but the costumes give everyone a confidence boost.
“You kind of do pick up a persona when you put it on…how a superhero would feel when they put on that cape. You get to be anonymous but still yourself. It’s also amazing when other people recognize your character, and it builds up that free feeling,” Holton said.
Superheroes and comics were not the only characters at the convention. A Mandalorian cosplayer was also in attendance.
The convention runs Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
